Hey guys, I need suggestions for a good console within 7k. Am thinkin of the PS2. Any other alternatives? Also for the PS2, If i buy it from an authorised dealer with Warranty, will the console play the onofficial game dvds or does it play only original games? Any idea about the latest price of the PS2 and what is included in the box? Will i get 2 controllers along with a few games??
Thanks!

for 6.5k u will get the modded one.but no warranty on the modded one.in sony world u will get the official one for 7k with 1yr warranty

PS2 is the most obvious & the best choice. The Xbox would be the only alternative but I guess the games support has been taken off with the advent of Xbox 360.The games library on the original Xbox isn't that huge either.

If you get it (PS2) from a authorised Sony showroom or a retail outlet like Croma, then yes it will only be able to play original PAL region DVDs.The official price is Rs.6,999.

The box contents are:

One Playstation 2 console

One Original Dual Shock Analog Controller

Proprietary Composite Cable

Power Cable &

User's Manual.

Sony only provides one analog controller.Which means you'll need to buy an additional controller as well as a 8MB Magic Gate memory card separately. Also no games would be bundled.

My advice: Better go in for a modded PS2.

Yeah, PS2 game prices are just falling and continuing to fall. I just wish there was better variety but all the places I've checked at only seem to have the stuff that Milestone gives around which is lacking.:(

Being as faulty as it is, I'm not sure if a slim version is a smart choice. Sure, it has the 45nm design, but that didn't really improve things a whole lot if I remember correctly.

The most important info though was this.

Microsoft also officially announced its new Xbox 360 package deal for India. Get this: An Xbox 360 Core console, a 20 GB HDD, one wireless controller and free copies of Viva Pinata and Forza 2 for Rs. 14,999.

Sounds just like last time except with the premium version instead. Also, why Forza2 and Viva Pinata again? Are they even trying anymore?

There has/had never been much choice when it came to purchase "legal" PS2 DVDs in India. All of the titles available were not even a fraction of what it had to offer in reality. Most of the classic titles is a no go in this place.May be Play Asia has a better variety.:)

This just seems too delicious of an offer but the big question, Is the RRoD fixed? :P

i think wait till for some time it is expected that 360 will cut its price in india too

u might get 360 for 10k

I wouldnt bet on that. MS does not consider the Indian market seriously.

There are only a few console consumers and they are forced to buy regardless of the cost and what they get in return. India has been a dumping ground for old XBOX 360 stocks that will not sell anywhere else and to add insult to injury, they are sold at very high prices.

So, even if you get the core console for 10k, it would be old stock which would not sell anywhere else in the world because a new better version is already available there.

I doubt them doing that right now. With PS3 now being promoted in every way possible there's a very slim chances of the classic titles making it out here.:(

i knw..i just wished,,selling a 20k+ game systems with a price tag of 2k per game in a country like india >> sony sales guys should a realistic

I agree. Last gen didn't materialize too well here in India and it's already being thrown right out of the window. There's still so many titles on the PS2 I want to play.:(

Saw a PS2 for 6K at Sony world Today. They were even giving God of war 2 with it. Its the best option. Buy it from Sony world and mod it later. You will loose the warranty though.

But IMO there is really no point in buying the last generation console now. Either save some cash and invest in X360 or PS3 else buy a graphic card if you have a decent PC.

But if you anyways have to buy a gaming console for 7K , then better invest in a PSP.

And all the other peeps ranting about the unavailability of classic games , lets get serious. Out of all the owners of a PS2 in India , 99% would have had their consoles modded. Infact it would be utterly stupid if they hadn't. Thanks to Internet, its even more easier to find classic games now. And don't give me that anti piracy Bullsh1t. We are Indians, that in itself gives us the right to pirate. :P

A new game for the PS2 costs 500, 700 or 999. If you cant afford that get a job.

Its the piracy mentality which stops companies taking the Indian market seriously.

Thanks for all the replies guys!:)
So i guess its going to be the PS2 in the end! Well im a bit confused whether to buy the original one and then get it modded or directly buy the modded one? What would be the cost of modding it n is it safe to be the non-warranty modded ones? One of my friends said he bought his PS2 from an official shop with warranty and all and that it still plays all the game dvds available at Manish Market/Heera Panna....bit confused as to what to do...some advise plz:huh:

Better get a modded one.The availability of the quality legit titles is very low & hence you'll have depend on playing bootleg DVDs.Unless you plan to purchase original DVDs over Play Asia or some other website.

A pre-modded console comes for around 6.5k-7.5k depending on the shop you get it from. And about the warranty thingy I got my modded console with a 1 year service warranty. That's the max I could get.But usually there are very less chances of the PS2 going kaput.

By 'all' DVDs if you mean the pirated DVD's too then:
A.) It isn't from an "official" shop OR
B.) The console isn't "official" :P

Get a modded one.PERIOD.:)

i here that sony is going to release new model of ps2 for India and its true

google it
