Hi,
What is the best deal we can get the N1 for now?
Saw it at 20north for 31K+1500 (duty). Just wondering if there any cheaper options on this?

TIA

Damn, that's sad. Have to get the phone before the prices start skyrocketing. But, if they release a new version of OS, which phone would get it first? Desire perhaps? It makes sense to go buy a desire now :(.

it's not discontinued. Google has stopped selling it throught it's USA stores. The phone will be available through retail partners in UK and through carriers for a while.

Among the HTC Desire and the Nexus one, which would be the better choice?

The only lacking feature in the Desire seems to be them lack of the dual mic but is that significant?

OT: I don't think Goog can sell an OS that is essentially open source (wouldnt that be a violation?).

Among desire and nexus one, pick desire if you need a beautiful UI that makes things easy. If you want lot of updates, you should get nexus one. Both phones are not supported in India but there is a chance that desire might launch in india.

Open source means that the source code must be made publicly available for use. It doesn't matter if you are selling it or if you are giving it out for free. Others can take the source code, modify it, add extra functional and sell it under their brand name. And they too must provide the source code.

Why do you want to spend 30k on the Nexus one ? Galaxy S is a much better choice . Even the newly launched Motorola Milestone XT720 is decent if you want a good camera (only has a 720mhz processor though)

stick to nexus one mate .. its a plain vanilla android .. no sense ui or touchwiz.. n1 will always be one step ahead of all android phones ..n1 has 2.2 now .. by the time 2.2 reaches galaxy or desire nexus would have moved up to 3.0 firmware.

go for n1 .. a plain vanilla android ui is always a better option .

As this is stock Android and is from HTC is it not possible to load any ROM's that we please on it?

Also shoudln't it be possible to load either the HTC Sense UI as well as touchwiz to try them both out and then decide?

even more reason to get a nexus one .. now its going to be a rare item soon .ull get a better resale later for sure

So between the N1 and the HTC desire, which would be a better choice at this time?

Or rather is it possible to get the sense UI on the N1 without too many issues,? In which case the N1 would be the logically choice.

Having owned both phones, here are key difference between Desire and Nexus one.

1. Desire has FM radio out of box. Devs are trying to patch it on Nexus one, but its not fully working yet.

2. Desire has Hardware buttons which I prefer over touch sensitive buttons on nexus one.

3. Desire has optical trackpad and push button. Nexus one has track ball in its place. Optical will get some time getting used to.

4. HTC has fiddled with the Desire somewhere. It has louder and much punchy audio output from headphone jack compared to nexus one which is little flat and little weaker than Desire.

5. Desire has louder speaker.

The advantage of Desire is that it shares hardware with google and it comes from HTC.

So its double advantage.

You get beautiful Sense UI, and you get all updates that Nexus one receives from google ported onto Desire in no time. And btw, Official HTC Froyo rom is in the wild now and you can have Froyo vanilla, or Froyo With Sense on Desire now ;)

On the other Hand Nexus One also got Sense UI patched onto it now.

It finally boils down to which design you prefer.

^ are you thinking about the Legend? The Desire doesn't have a protruding lower portion (or chin as it is called by many). It tapers a little at the rear towards the bottom of the phone, but I don't think it sticks out at the front.

u can put froyo on desire easily .. but if google releases gingerbread in sept it will take a while before its available on other androids .... htc hero is a good example .. it took htc a year before 2.1 was officially available on it ... rather than providing an update htc simply launches a new phone with a newer version of android ..

so if u get a nexus u wont have to change ur phone after a few months as any newer version of android will easily be available on it ..

As Google is no longer planning to manufacture and sell N1's wouldn't this imply that they may be planning to gradually stop support of it soon (i.e. releasing newer versions of android for this)?
