i have a compaq system which has samsung dvd writer ... its gone in 1.5yrs

my system have only 2 sata port do i buy a pata hard disk to free my 1 sata slot for any other upgrade in future [additional hard disk]

edit :- using 1 sata port for 500GB hard disk

I have always had sony cd/dvd writers in my system---i found them to be super reliable.

i had a crx-230 cd writer which i gave to afriend and it is still working--bought it in 2003.

my first dvd writer was a dru dvd writer(2004) which was sold to a friend and is still working.

the other dvd writer dru-810 was purchased in 2005 and is still working in dad's pc.

and yesterday i bought myself a SONY DRU-870S 24X DVD-RW for 1100rs.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little, but did not want to start an entire new thread for myself.

Anyone has any experience with the SONY DRU-870S 24X DVD-RW ? I have seen a few descent reviews, but anyone here has any personal experience with this drive ? My DVD-RW (which i kept flawless for the last 2 years) just crapped out, not reading any DVDs. So need a replacement ASAP.

I am more like using DRU 870 for about few months... it is working fine. Reading/writing discs perfectly & one more observation it's tray come out very fast :bleh:.
but I have actually Sony Optiarc AD-7240S which replaced dru 870.

IIRC the AD-7240S is the OEM from which the DRU-870S is made of. So they should be the same (except a few minor differences).

Just got my 870S. Amazing drive. Super fast reads 9as compared to my previous samsung 203D) and it even reads my really badly screwed up DVD's flawlessly :D
