Which is the best surround sound headset for PS3 AND X360?? I won't be gaming online, so mic is an unwanted feature as far as i am concerned.Sound quality should be awesome, and wireless preferred if they can provide same performance as wired ones.

Also, since i have connected the consoles to my AVR, would it be better to connect the headphones to the console or AVR??

Budget is around 5-10k.

Audio Technica ATH M50 maybe? Retails for 7.4k from Pristine Note. Recently got one for a friend who intends to use it with a FiiO E7, and I happened to test it with a couple of games and faired really well. With an amp, the M50 really shines so I am betting your AVR should do a decent job. The cord is very lengthy (3m?) so you should have no problems sitting away from the AVR while playing a game or watching a movie.

The PS3 also supports USB headsets. The X360 doesn't AFAIK. Haven't heard much about the USB based headsets so cannot comment on those.

Thanx mate.....how about these??

No clue. Haven't heard of those before. Moreover that receiver accepts only one toslink input, which means it is either the PS3 or the X360 that can be plugged in at a time. So you will have to manually change the toslink cable from one console to the other each time you swap between the X360 and the PS3. Moreover, you should have a pair of rechargeable cells standby if the juice runs out. And all this comes at nearly 10k a price tag!

@Gannu: But would i get similar position effects from a normal 2 channel like ATM50 u mentioned ?? These have some serious reviews from Gamers and the battery problem is a minor niggle though the toslink input is not.But at the end of the day, I just want the FX to be mindblowing.

I am used to playing at thunderous volumes at times, but night sessions being the only times available now and sister being here with her baby is forcing me to go for a headset for these late night sessions.

@ Sarath: Sorry mate, i couldn't comprehend ur post.

Regards

I am in a similar dilemma and have decided to go with a wireless headset for the TV. Please suggest a good wireless option under 5k mark. Mic is not a necessity.

Hmm ok was on tapatalk so only gave you headphone names.

Turtlebeach- google it and see their offerings. Wireless surround and both ps3 xb compatibility (model- PX5)

Forget Tritton as I don't know if it sits well with xbox

PS wireless stereo headset (ruled out)

If you are connecting a 3.5mm connector than most of the suggestions given above stand good. Many game on Steelseries Siberia, Audiotechina AD700, M35, M50(?), Sennheiser 518, 558, 598(shit expensive), etc etc. There are plenty of them. All 2.0 cans though. The SS has a USB soundcard but I don't know how it will play with the Xbox and PS.

Wireless : Sennheiser has many (just hit google), There are more but I can't recollect

umm ok i have a bit of experience in this

i owned a astro a 40 for around a year.classy sound and really gives a good positional sound and awesome feel.the only con is it costs a lot and lacks a bit of bass which is the main reason i sold it.

now i am using a tritton ax pro for the past few months.it does lack the positional sound of astro but good lord it has a great pump.you will really feel the adrenaline,a fantastic in your face kind of a sound.costs around 10 to 12 k.very highly recommended.

one note - if you are looking for serious surround sound[the one you get by playing a real high class 5.1 in your room] stay away from turtle beach and other "virtual surround" headsets.only go for true 5.1.

^^ they are good shout on a budget.if you are looking for the "BEST" surround sound gaming headset i do say stay away from it.

@ bluff bro i will suggest you to save some dough and get the trittons.trust me they are totally worth it.wireless medium[except for the new version of the astro] hasnt really picked up on good sound.btw i picked my triitons up for 8.6 k so you can always look for a good deal

^

I (and I assumed Bluffmaster also, looking at his budget) am on a pretty tight budget.

BTW where did you get the AX Pro for 8.6k?

it was a good day.i was checking global easy buy and they were available for 10 k something.use the 1.5 k coupons ebay were dishing out and got myself the tritts.

Saw them for 12k on flipkart. They are (as usual) cheaper in US.

HD518: 6000
HD558: 9000
HD598: 12000

I was watching the HD558 on flipkart when they were 7000. Sadly they bumped the price just when I decided to order. Mind reading cheaters!
flipkart is awesome BTW ]
