Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a all-in-one laptop. I mention a gaming laptop in the topic since if it's good enough for gaming, it's definitely good enough for any other applications I need it for. I've been through a lot of laptop configs from different manufacturers, considered the warranty offered (very imp. in my opinion) and i've noted that either they have really crappy gpus on offer or the cpu sucks. Still to find a laptop available in India with that magical configuration that's just right for me. :(

My ideal config would be something like...
Intel C2D P8600 and above
4 GB DD3
A good enough GPU, I realise that's the biggest thorn here!
320 GB 7200 RPM HDD
16" LED FULL/Non HD Screen

Guess i've covered it all...

Cheers!
Abhishek

Guys anyone? The only model i'm considering right now is the HP DV6 1154TX but I still have my doubts about how good the Mobility Radeon 4650 is. Anyone use it yet? or seen any benchmarks of it?

Thanks for the replies guys...

@Punker: I'm hoping you meant the Dell Studio XPS series, in which case the GPU on offer with it here in India is really sucky. I really don't think i'd be able to game much on it. If it wasn't for the GPU i'd already have it I mean it was my first choice especially for the RGBLED screen.

@sohail99: I'd love to get my hands on the ASUS G71GX, however ASUS don't sell them here in India AFAIK, and I don't want to get into issues like DOA and other warranty crap by getting someone to get it for me from abroad.

What i'm looking for is the "relatively" the best gaming laptop I can buy here and hence I said the 4650 seems to be the best option for GPU being sold by laptop manufacturers here in India. I already know I can't really buy a "Gaming" laptop in India, *sigh* I just want to be sure I make the best of what is available.

Guys thanks for all your help, but i've decided to go for the HP DV6 1110AX. Costs 60% of what my budget originally was and it's insane value for money! Had been to a HP Dealer yesterday, saw it and fell in love. Since I can't really get a good gaming laptop here within a sane price range i've decided to let sanitiy prevail and go for something that's VFM.

HP Pavilion dv6-1110ax Entertainment Notebook PC (VB624PA) specifications - HP Home & Home Office products

I was given a quote of 47000 for it. Any idea if I can get it for lesser in Mumbai?

@thebanik: Yeah i've considered this model too. But it's 20k more for the proccy and a 500gb HDD in lieu of the 320GB the 1110AX has.

I don't think these justify a price increase of 20k! Would you agree?

Which is also why I said that the 1110AX is tremendous VFM, I mean I know it's a compromise. I'm always the one to buy the best money can buy, if you know what I mean. This is only the first time i'm being very sensible about buying a gadget I so desperately crave for! :D

I'd love to know if you think i'm making the right decision.

Many people had bad experience with HP, In Sato's case looks like more bad :P .. btw two of my friends( 1 ex. room mate) have same HP dv**** special edition, one laptop has developed some problem with DVD drive, doesn't read low quality/many DVDs. but again his friend is in HP(marketing/sells) so no problem for him. Also, if I had to buy a laptop for decent gaming, I would have chosen the same HP 1110ax laptop. Atleast service should be better then Zenith/hcl..

Naah i've waited enough if you know what I mean. ;) I also need it for work as i've mentioned so yeah I seriously can't wait. Besides the Alienware might cost me my right arm! Don't think I can afford that...

Yup that certainly makes more sense, site didnt have the price mentioned hence didnt know........HDD you can always use external....and honestly the slight difference in the proccy wont make such a difference anyway that you would regret later....Dont know ASS of HP, do enquire about that too, since with laptop that is a very important factor, also check and buy extended warranty if there is one......

@thebanik: Thanks for replying! Yeah I knew you'd see my point, exactly why I reached this decision. Yeah i'll have to ask around about after sales, and yeah i'm surely going for a 2 year extended warranty. Costs some 5/6k extra they said. Will keep you guys posted. Currently i'm hunting for the best deal on this!

Hi,

HP Pavilion dv6-1110ax has AMD processor and DV6-1154TX has Intel Core 2 Duo P8600. dv6-1110ax's AMD processor has 1MB L2 cache, whereas DV6-1154TX has 3 MB L2 Cache. That would make a good difference in performance.:)

1154TX also has 500GB HDD, so If I had been you, I would go for 1154TX. However, you can also check 1152TX which is the younger brother of 1154TX and has a nearly similar config of that.

@rishai: True, i've already considered that like i've mentioned a few posts earlier. Problem is just for the P8600 + 180GB more HDD space i'll have to shell out something like 16/20k more. Don't think it's worth it. Thanks for the suggestion though.

If you are still wondering about how good the Mobility Radeon HD4650 is, then here's some info for you..

Its basically the exact same chip as the HD4670.. just with slower clocks. Also, the Mobility Radeon and regular desktop versions of these chips are identical as well.

The nvida 96GT desktop chip is faster than the HD4670.. however, The mobile 96MGTchip is a much slower version. It infact gets beaten by even the mobility Radeon 4650 :)

Basically, the 4650 is awesome VFM for mobile gaming :)
