Wanna have a gps fone which has good maps in india, gulf and the US , but it should not be using the gprs for the positioning.... Pls suggest....

Any phone with GPS capabilities can do that .I have tested sygic maps( Map My India) on Nokia 5230,5800,Samsung Spica ,iPhone4.

All of them get gps lock in less than 3 mins ,iPhone is the fastest to get a GPS lock. The maps in India are not upto the level of what you get in US or NZ.It is good for driving to the streets and not house numbers.

I use the same sygic and map my india in e71 , at first it used to gimme right navigation, now im getting, waiting for signal for long time .... Why is it so?? The signal reception of the fone gone lowww???

Planning to take e72 , will i have to change ma mind????

Try under clear sky,the problem will be sorted out.

why not buy one standalone mini gps module??
Those with sirf chips give really great lock times
the chip on my nok 6220 works great under clear sky only...
Indoors and cloudy sky almost kills it
if you are serious about navigation need buy a standalone module
should be cheap from US

^^ True

I too had a hard time getting GPS lock on my Nokia 5230 and without internet connection (A-GPS) it rarely got lock or took hell lot of time. I too would vote for a dedicated GPS module.

I ve a samsung omnia HD and get good GPS locks with the AGPS on ,i get it in under a min.but without the A GPS it takes upto 2 mins which i feel is pretty good for a phone. i use mapmyindia maps with garmin and sygic.

i have a gps module lying unused since my iphone 3gs

its been used 3-4 times and gets an amazing lock.

if anyone is interested, i might ship that out..

for iphone 3gs what maps would you recommend (india usage); at what cost?

thanks

Guys i have been to Dragon Mart in Dubai yday , there i saw lot of chinese stuffs retailing for 250 Dhs , with the GCC maps loaded , they told me any maps can be put on tht also... should i go for it? will tht hardware be good enough to get the signal lock?

My Nokia C5 Locks really fast

It even locks indoors inside buildings if I am around 5-6 feet from the Window....

Followed directions while driving from Ahmedabad to Delhi and not once did it fail me... Correct accurate routes, speed of vehicle ... It even helped me navigate Jaipur's packed traffic... Best was it being able to tell me correct direction in a crossing with around 5 exits
