Hi,

I recently configured a PC with Phenom X2 550, 4GB DDR3 and 880GM-UD2H motherboard. I am able to smoothly play 1080p videos.

However, I am not able to play NFS-Hot Pursuit in decent settings. Now, I should buy a graphics card for it.

Please suggest good graphics card considering following:

1. micro ATX form factor motherboard, can't go for a lengthy graphics card since it blocks 3 SATA ports. (880GMA-UD2H issue)
2. Don't want to spend too much money on graphics card, unless very well justified. (4-6k max)
3. I have 450W intex SMPS, can it support graphic card power needs?
4. I have 23inch LED monitor(ST2320L), so 1080p is desired resolution for gaming. But I can compromise playing games in 720p atleast since i am not spending so much money.
5. I prefer ATI because 880G supports crossfireX with integrated graphics to extend performance.

Thank you for your time

You cannot use hybrid crossfire with any graphics card. Check your motherboard manual for supported cards. I think only the radeon 5450 is supported from the current generation AMD cards. Given that you are willing to spend 6k, I would recommend thhe radeon 5670 1 GB around 5k which is excellent value for money. I guess your Intex 450w should be able to handle it, but I recommend getting the FSP saga II 350w to be on the safe side. You should try unlocking your processor, you might get a quad core for free!

Thanks for quick response. My processor is not a black edition one, will i be still able to unlock it? Please share a link how can I do that. I am Ok spending 5k for graphics, can it play NFS-HP in HD?

I am not sure about unlocking the non-black edition of 550, but you could still give it a try. Update to the latest bios, and see if you have a unlocking option somewhere in the bios. I do not think 5670 is enough to max out nfs-hp at 1080p.

First thing that you should do is get rid of the Intex PSU.
Get a 2nd hand HD5750 with ~2yrs warranty left. New one costs ~6.5k so you can get 1 year old ones for ~4.5k-5k.
Get a FSP SAGAII 400w ~ 1.9k/ Gigabyte Superb 460 ~ 2k.

at 720p? Isn't the view is quite enjoyable at 720p resolution in 23" Dell monitor? I see 720p videos and they look nice. Or do you think it doesn't look nice and I shouls spend more money to get more powerful graphic card.

+1 to what DarkAngel said get rid of wimpy PSU's which will turn your cabinet interiors into molten slag and please get a AMD HD 5670 minimum or HD 5750 to make it a more optimum buy <second hand will be in TE's Members market> + if you end up buying brand new piece go for the HIS IceQ edition.

HIS HD 5750 IceQ+ 1GB (128bit) GDDR5 PCIe (DirectX 11/ Eyefinity) < HD 5700 Series < Desktop Graphics < Products | HIS Graphic Cards
Bench - GPU - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News -- compare this with online reviews of the AMD HD 5670.

1. New PSU - Corsair VX450W - (for future upgrades)

2. G Card - HD 5750 @ 6.8k

Worth every penny that card.

^^

RMA and other warranty related issues my friend if the card conks out you can't RMA or replace it in India. So think before you buy :).

Yeah, besides, 5.5k from US, 7k from india, + peace of mind. That's worth it. So go ahead.

it's about 6.8k priced like never before, and overclocks like hell/consumes very low power stock.

Install Gigabyte Easytune 6 from your motherboard software disc/download from the internet and use it to TRY unlocking the other 2 cores.

But, dont these products have international warranty? I think Sapphire ones have. I have seen in Techenclave forum itself.

@RD274

I tried from BIOS Settings, making ACC to Auto. But no cores unlocked :(

Can't vouch call Aditya Infotech Aditya Infotech Ltd. HOME Page -- better safe than sorry.

You can't get a 100% guarantee unlock with all processors, some of the dies are default dual-cores so hard-luck on that one. If you had wanted a quad-core you should've gone for an Athlon IIx4 based processor on a limited budget they perform well@ stock and give the Phenom IIx2 series a run for their money.

Hey, I was not looking for a quad core processor. I was planning for Athlon X2 250, but shop person convinced me to go for phenom II x2 instead as it has more cache and a better processor.i paid 1k more than Athlon II x2 250 to get this phenom II.
