Hello everyone !

a colleague of mine is set upon upgrading his PC in a budget of 25k. most of the things are set, but choice of mobo is yet to be finalised. could anyone please suggest the best H61 mobo currently in the market, preferably with USB 3.0 ?! we earlier had thought upon asus P8H61-M-LE, but came to know it doesnt have USB 3.0. another choice is ASRock's H61M/U3S3. source of purchase primarily would be lamington road, or else, online. rest of the config is as follows :

- CPU - i3 2100

- GPU - sapphire HD6950 2GB

- PSU - seasonic 520W

- RAM - 4GB DDR3

mobo should come around 3-5k. pls suggest.

thanks in advance

alright. am coaxing him to increase his budget further. he's ready to increase his budget further and HIMSELF indicated that he would like to have an i5
<

so what should be a good budget gaming CPU (i5)+Mobo config then (27-28k lower threshold of the new budget) ?

In that case get this --

Intel Core i5 2320 ~9500/-

Intel DH67-BL ~5800/-

G.Skill RIPJAWS 4GB x 2 1600MHz ~3400/-

[the HD 6950 ~10000/-]

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB ~4000/- [OR buy a second hand disk from members market and save here]

Seasonic S12II 520W ~3500/-

Hope this is a good recommend for your friend, for over-clockable systems he'll need to invest atleast ~35000/-. Cheers!!

ASUS P8Z68-M PRO ~8900/- [A micro-ATX, Z68 based motherboard will work better for your friend as I find the Z68 a more complete chipset].

Hope this answers your query, Cheers!!

sorry i didnt clearly write it
<

28k is his the lower limit for of his budget for the WHOLE rig (ie, CPU+Mobo, GPU, PSU)

lower limit is useless dude.. give us an upper limit

lets take the ABSOLUTE figure to be 30k (still not sure. my friend became philosophical-and-all when i persuaded him to this figure. but i think i can still keep him firm on this, as i would like him to spend wisely on quality stuff than spend measly with compromises if he is able to spend more in the first place
<
)

so lets choose the proccy as i5 2400.

am looking forward to buying the mobo and CPU as a combo, since i feel that way we can get the stuff cheaper (retailers mostly quote the combo price, as far as i've seen).

my question would be now :

* what could be the cheapest yet good mobo for this CPU, and for how much ?

* considering that the answer to above still kicks the budget out of the window, the same question stands true for an H67/P67 mobo. cheapest and good i think is the intel one suggested by ALPHA17. any other option ? like the MSI H67 mobo suggested by him early in the thread ? should P67 even be considered ?!

P.S. - An important info - the friend's resolute about not fiddling around with OC'ing and all. he says he doesnt have neither any interest and hence nor any intention of following up on that. does that make the Z68-choice stand null & void ?

yeah it can.. but any more components and you will stretch it thin. as a matter of fact even the above rig oc'd is a problem
Sure thing Sir, AMD cards are well within their limits when it comes to power consumption -- http://www.anandtech...duct/293?vs=330.

Load power consumption ~300W, now we can do a little maths for other components -- http://www.extreme.o...n.com/PSUEngine.

Still the HD 6950 comes within the range.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

thanks for the confirmation guys .. i have never used any seasonic product before so wasnt aware of the brand

anyways i have personally used 6950 with corsair HX750 so i dont have to worry about any power consumption needs

P.S. 6950 does make some noise. Its not a quitest at all

hello everyone !

i think its safe to declare now (ie, without any fear of change in plan further now
<
) that we have decided on a config with a budget of 30k. its as follows :

1. CPU + Mobo - intel core i5 2400 (or 2500, depending on the offer we get) + intel DH67-CL (expected price ~16k or slightly more)

2. GPU - Sapphire HD 6950 2GB (10.5k; used piece)

3. PSU - Seasonic 520W (3.5-3.7k)

rest of the components are already present.

pls do comment

Get the DH67-BL, no point going for the CL full-ATX version which has no additional features for a ~400/- increase in price.

2. GPU - Sapphire HD 6950 2GB (10.5k; used piece)

3. PSU - Seasonic 520W (3.5-3.7k)

For SMPS please get the Seasonic S12II 620W ~4600/- for future plans and over-clocking headroom.

rest of the components are already present.

Answers are in bold hope this helps, Cheers!!

thanks alpha ! i compared the various intel H67 mobos, but couldnt find any difference between them barring the form-factor and availability of firewire port. if something missed my attention, could you please highlight it ? i mean, any other point of difference between the BL, CL & GD mobos ?

also, my friend doesnt have any intention of OCing, but still, for future upgrade plans, it makes sense to go for a higher power PSU. thanks for suggesting that too !
