Hi. Need a college laptop. Budget around 35k. Can extend if it is really worth. primary usage:- office apps, web browsing, watching movies etc. No Gaming.
Screen size:- 14"/15" would be enough. Light weight is preferred.
Should have a stylish look (I know that there are less options at that price range, but for your information, this is gonna be used by a girl. :) )

Personally, I prefer DELL and ACER. But other brands are welcome also. It would be really helpful if you write the main pros and cons along with its price.

Thanks in anticipation. :)

Dell inspiron 1545

250 GB

15.4"

3 GB ram

Core2duo ( t6100 ? not sure)

bluetooth, wifi, backpack

for 35000 at Mccann, lamington road. I saw the same config in croma for 34 k ( 2k more and u get belking bag+ bluetooth mouse+ ep630 ) but they take 10 days to deliver at ur place.

+1 for Dell Inspiron

14 is small & Cute

15 looks bit bigger.

Guys, which is better for cheap deal ? Purchase from Chroma/shops or purchase online ?

Purchase online ANYTIME! PLUS you get to choose from all the colors :ohyeah:

i dunno the exact model but it was core2duo ,4gb,320gb, gma4500 with dos but was studio with dos, just ask around in retails shops u will find it for sure, its available here in hyd.

Purchase Dell Inspiron ( I have purchased one recently) and You'll get

1.Wasted space around kwypad that could have been used for alphanumeric key pad.
2. No HDMI out.
3. No HDD activity indication.
4. No dedicated shortcut keys for media application, display switching, wireless on/off etc.
5. No lock when you close the display.
6. No dedicated area for scrolling in touchpad.
7. No RJ45 modem port, ( ona bad day when everything fails, I revert to good old dialup)
8. Your laptop will not fit in most of the laptop backpacks ( being 15.6", 16:9 display).
9. Laptop power adaptor is placed at side, not at the back.

These are my experience after using this Laptop for a month. i use HP/ ACER laptops at my office and belive me I can say the build of Dell's laptop is definitely not better than HP/ACER. Personally I like the convinience features offered by HP/ACER that used to be offered in DELL's earlier laptop (Inspiron 1525), but now given only in higher end laptop's, (Studio and XPS). People swear about DELL's A.S.S of which I've no experience.
Take your pick.....

@bigbyte

Okay. then suggest few models of DELL STUDIO,XPS and few from ACER. Should be around 35k. It can be extended if really needed. :)

get the acer 5738z for 27.5k.

it has all the features & also some more that you will get in a dell that would cost around 35-40k.

i got a call from Dell Saying tht 860 Model @ 28000 Inclusive of Delivery at my place.Mumbai

Config: C2d 1.8 Ghz, 1 gb ram ddr2, 160 gb hdd, 15 inch screen , intel Graphics & Rest is Normal Config of A860

If any 1 wants let me know

The Acer Aspire 5738z has a 15.6 inch screen but the Acer Aspire 4736 has a 14 inch screen.

The main difference between these two is the better battery and bigger screen in the Acer 5738z.

The 4736 costs just 1k less than the 5738z.

So take your pick.

Well, I am getting biased towards the ACER 5738 after reading various reviews. Someone please post the approx price. Of course a DELL counter part is welcome at that price with the pros and cons over the ACER one.
