i need to purchase a good speaker set in BANGALORE - pls limit budget to under 10k (although 5-8k would be ideal).

location: bangalore
budget: sub 10k
usage: will be attached to tv/dvd player in small living room
brand: logitech preferred (good experience with them in past)

umm and another thing: external/usb tv tuners dealers/shops in bangalore (product i'm looking for is the pixelview play tv series)

thanks a ton.

best,
vinit

The Z5300 is the best deal IMO for under 10K, it depot lists them @ 8.5~9K, good deal, u can buy with your eyes closed. If possible try to get the Z5300E which has some chrome trim that looks super..

For dvd's a 5.1 setup would be ideal, its not too good an option to buy a 2.1 Setup. But to connect to a dvd player you need speaker which have optical/spdif in (and provided your dvd player has the outputs). You can connect using analog also i believe but its more cumbersome. The Logitech X-530 and Z5300 both have these. The X-530 is around the 6k mark, but the Z-5300 is a much better choice. It will cost you more though, like 11k.

Planning to purchase the Logitech X-230 - 2.1 speaker set, with favourable reviews.

It's not an ideal companion to a dvd player, but Proper Digital speaker sets (with decoders) were way out of budget.

And if I can't really use 4.1/5.1 speakers without routing the audio via my PC(and 5.1 soundcard), then I might as well save the extra money.

Just ONE Q:
These speakers have a 3.5" input for audio - will i be able to use any standard RCA (white/red) to Stereo cable from my DVD player to the speakers?

best,
vin

The logitech z5300 would be the best choice. However it would cross the 10k mark. Strictly below 10k would mean you have to go for an upper end 2.1 system or a lower range 5.1. In that case there are many choices. I had enquired about the play tv series in s.p road a few days back. Only a few shops have the low end model.Rashi peripherals can bring any of the models(I called up the bang no)but they charge a very high premium. If you have no problems buying online you can check the prices at the itdepot.com. It's considerably lesser than rashi's quotes.

did a little more digging and found out that the X-530 and X-230 speakers require a special adapter in order to use them with game consoles/dvd players

i can stretch my budget to purchase the Z-5300 as everyone seems to give them a big thumbs up. BUT i will be using them with my pioneer 383 dvd/xvid player and it only has a red/white rca jacks (along with various digital/optical outputs).

from what i can understand, i'll be setting the audio input to stereo on the woofer and selecting matrix mode on the remote to upmix the sound from the dvd player to all 5 speakers -- correct?

will this affect sound quality??

and if i'm going to spend 13-14k on 5.1 speakers, are there any cheap DIGITAL speaker sets with bundled decoders that will provide true surround sound??

cheers,
vinit

Cheap and digital don't go together!!! The Z5300 shouldn't be 12K, that's fukkin robbery... what the price is going up or what??

AFA itdepot goes some member posted here that its 8.5K.... I dunno but must be a chennai member, cause that's where IT depot is based... I paid 10.5K for these speakers way back in Sept 2005

Yup in itdepot the price was 8500 for maybe only a day or maybe it was a mistake. Now it is 12595 excluding taxes. Better buy it from sp road. If any of the shop owners know you resonably well they will get it for a far lesser price.:)
