Best Method to send money from India to US

I need to send 1400$ to my cousin in the states , so that he can buy a laptop for me.
I've checked with my bank but they are charging a heavy transaction fee on top of the slightly higher value of the dollar(than the market rate) they have set.
Is there any other cheaper way to avoid these charges...
Tried Paypal but people say that Indian Paypal accounts cannot be used to send money to US paypal Accounts

So Please help me out over here

Hdfc bank or axis bank charge 1000 plus service tax for remittance.

Ask for tt service.

I guess, one can't pay indian paypal a/c from india, but other should be possible..

you can also buy DD from the bank in his name and send it to him.

i think you should be able to send money via paypal , but it cannot be marked as gift. if you have concerns try with $1 transfer initially ( you will have to select the option services /goods i think) and see how it goes. also remember there is 2.9% service charge on paypal and will be deducted from your cousins paypal balance.

Got it converted into Cash and sending it through my parents....
