CPU/Mobo Best Mobo for AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE 3.1GHz

Asus M4A78STD-V-EVO ~6.6k - is a decent mobo with the famous 4200 IGP and DDR 3 support. Provided you have an unlockable batch, you can unlock using this board.

A Gigabyte 785G counterpart with ddr 3 support will also do. Dunno model name. You'll get it cheaper.

If you plan to OC the excellent proccy, then probably go for a slightly higher end one, to extract more out of it. All depends on your needs and budget.
 
Get the ASUS 785G EVO, it's a FULL ATX with FULL blown features and the board as a whole looks cool and performance and OC is a breeze..
 
If you don't mind DDR2, you can get Biostar TA790GXE for 4K and you can get a good pair of 4GB RAMs which will be far better than the crappy cl9 DDR3 rams and can overclock well.
 
^... No point getting DDR2 right now...

Go for DDR3 & you can upgrade to better RAM in future... DDR3 prices will fall but this cannot be said for DDR2...
 
If you want futureproof, buy it in future, not today. A pair of good 4GB will simply last for 3 years, and by then, it will be time to upgrade the whole system anyway. And 95% of the people do not upgrade their systems anyway. Buying something expensive which provides no performance benefit actually doesn't make sense.

Given that the Gigabyte MA785GM-UD2H (DDR3 Based) is a micro atx board, does it hamper usage of PCI slots later ? For GPU, longer PCI cards etc ? Saw some reviews mentioning this point.

I have the same question, Im thinking of getting this board for a friend, but he will almost surely add a soundcard (Xonar DX) to it later. It will have dedicated dual slot GPU in the PCI-Express slot.
 
^^If you will be adding a sound card later better go for Asus 785G V EVO - 6.5k. Better go for the ATX form factor rather than the micro ATX.
 
From the same xmas deals link - MSI 785G-E53 (DDR3 Based) -- 5450/- Shipped . Couldn't find any definitive reviews though.

This is also an ATX board, similar in specs to MSI 785G-E65. The only visible difference from the specs of both is that E53 supports Memory OC upto 2133 MHz while E65 is upto 1600

I've considered that board, but it has a few things that he doesn't really need/are redundant. A second 4x PCI-E slot for example. Despite the UD2H being m-ATX, it just "may" be able to able to fit a soundcard along with a dedicated GPU, in which case it'd be nice to have a small board like that, can be used in an HTPC build later on....
I guess the only way to be sure is check the board with the GPU/soundcard dimensions together...

Plus the giga is 1k cheaper :D Just go thru some reviews and chk the dimensions before buying :) Start a thread so if any TE member has it they can help you out :)

PS: Im quite confused as to what the difference between the UD2H and the US2H is. It seems to be the same board AFAI can see...

GMT-UD2H : Dolby, 100% Solid state caps

GPMT-UD2H : Dolby, 100% Solid State Caps, + 128M Sideport memory
