Best PC Strategic games in year 2008 and 2009

I liked Dawn of War 2 a lot. Although it is more of a Strategy+RPG combination. Also, heard that Anno 1404 is pretty good.

BTW, u mean "Strategy" games right?... not "Strategic"...
 
Yep, Anno 1404 is a very well made game. Company of Heroes is also a 2008 game right ? It's a squad based strategy game like Dawn Of War. Which kind of strategy games do you prefer ? City building or war types ?
 
Although this thread is for best strategy game of 08-09 but I feel that Age of Empires is the BEST among all strategy games.

City building and Strategy games (RTS and TBS) are completely two different genres. :P Just because both types usually have a top down view and invlove some building and figthing doesn't mean both are similar. The goals and gameplay style is different in both. City building games are more about creative thinking while strategy games are more about logical thinking and formulating strategies to achieve objectives. Building games can exist without any fighing elements and RTS games can exist without the construction elements.

Anno 1404 is actually more of a city building game like Civilization series or the Caesar III /Pharaoh with a sprinkling of RTS elements. I would say most RTS game fans would not like it too much.
 
True. But they come under the major strategic heading only IMHO. I guess the OP hasnt made his requirements/preferences clear.

completely agreed age of empire series is one of the best series IMO:ohyeah: specially age of empires 3. waiting for their new release. ;)

AOE 2 is better than AOE 3 although AOE3 is a great game in itself.

btw, I have a legit copy of every AOE game and expansion packs ever released starting with the first one. :P

AOE2 is much harder than AOE3 too. I have won against 6PC AI enemies in a handicap match difficulty set as EXPERT teaming up with another PC AI ally. In some aspects AOE2 can be better but overall AOE3 is far better specially its TAD expansion is the best.
 
^^ AOE2 AI cheats on its hardest level. When I was at college we once made an analysis of the AI files and how it plays out. Basically Hardest AI gets free resources at frequent intervals without actually having to collect them. The AI plays fair up to the Hard level only.

Even I beat 6 Hardest AI in a 2 vs 6 match. Flush/Tower rush almost never works on hardest AI when you are pitted againist more than one of them. The best strategy is to use Crush / Knight Rush to eliminate two of them quickly. Otherwise the AI will quickly spam you with units created from the free resources. If your partner is a human player or even Hardest AI, sling shot strategy also works pretty good.

ohhh yeah, Spellforce 2.. amazing game that one. I havent played that myself, but my brother was and he couldnt stop raving about it! Its his all time fav...

Anyways, in recent years Company of Heroes gets my vote. (thou apposing fronts came out in 2007)
