Best projector within 1L range ?

Hi

Learning from this thread,

just got my pico projector (just for fun) few days back.

when you compare a 42 inch and projector, I have heard that overall even the best projectors need a bit dark room and a room even with curtains will have problem due to outside sun light.

Secondly, a screen is equally important as a projectors resolution and lumens.

Thus a good projector (irrespective of bulb life) + a very good quality screen becomes bomb amount. I hardly come around very exclusive screens india as available internationally. I maybe wrong but thats what all I have studied in past few weeks.

Could any one suggest a screen, or if anyone has used will also do.

Looking for a Ceiling mounted 84 inches diagonal or bigger. Also if some could highlight on the quality material used.

Thanks

thanks for the reply
how much did you pay for "120" Da-Lite high gain screen with glass beads"

Are LED projectors better than the normal projectors considering the life of bulb and quality.

Skoka, what you guys do about the wall ? Do you have that white curtain or something like which we have in class room ? I was thinking something which goes up n down automatically with a touch of remote.
....

I researched this a little bit on AVS forum where there's a thread for DIY screens and ended up painting the wall with a shade called "Snowfields" from DULUX studio and projecting on to it. Cost me a fraction of what an electric screen would cost and the picture is just awesome with a Epson Home Cinema 1080.

Dear you had a wall big enough and nothing on it so its perfect, I hav an LCD on the wall where I want this Screen. Shall Look for a used Da-Lite.

Atul,

I do not remember how much I have paid for my 120" screen. I bought it in 2003 while in US. I never really got to use it because I had kept it folded for over a three years and when I opened it, it had many creases. I had put it on a Sofa to stretch the screen to remove the creases. Unfortunately, the dust on the sofa's leather got stuck to the screen. I finally ended up buying another screen locally for 10K. I cannot really comment how good it is as I have no reference to compare against.

LED Projector for HT? Did you mean LCD?

no LED projectors are different then LCD. The life of LED bulbs in the projector are 20000 to 30000 hrs but they are not changeable. Again this is what I know.

^^ Yes. They do exist, but are insanely costly. At least in the 15K US$ range. The advantage they offer is the longer lamp life, in the range of around 20000 hours, and the fact that these lamps do not lose much intensity over time.

EDIT: Link for one such LED projector review:

LED projectors for HT? I have not heard of any HT quality LED projectors. There are few that have been announced. Being cutting edge technology, I am sure it will also bleed ones wallet.

Well, I was providing one alternative to a dedicated screen. I too was looking all over for a decent affordable retractable screen before I went the paint route because, like you said, I have a wall that gives me a screen in excess of 160" diagonal (size is where the wow factor comes in with projection setups, provided you have a quality projector of sufficient brightness).

After a little research, I found a company called Elite Screens which makes good quality but much more affordable screens than Draper and Da-Lite. They were willing to ship from their manufacturing plant in China to India. The final quote for their Cinetension 2 135" tab-tensioned retractable screen was around USD $1400 shipped, I believe. Here's their website. It's in Chinese but look up their U.S. website as the products are pretty much identical.

Tab-tensioned screens are worth it in any home theater projection setup as they avoid any undulations on the screen.
