Best tool to convert mkv to divx/xvid???

hey guys

can you please suggest the best app to convert mkv to divx/xvid compatiable to be played on DVD player. I have HDTV capable of 1080i as well a HD capable DVD player. QUALITY IS OF TOP IMPORTANCE and would prefer to retain mkv quality as much as possible.

A free and open source solution is media coder. It transcodes a million formats. OK I'm exaggerating but... you get the point. Get it from MediaCoder - more than a universal audio/video transcoder

@ rkarthea - dude i liked mediacoder for its interface and features and tried it, i used the wizard interface to begin with and transcoded a small file from mkv to xvid and the optput video was pretty good but without any audio, now y is that??

I also wanted to know if there is any loss in quality compared to mkv

And can i use FLAC in avi container?? would it be able to read it, if yes then how can i get mediacoder to transcode to flac??
