Hello everyone!

my father has a Samsung Galaxy 551, purchased in 2011. being myself new to android, and having now successfully rooted my own phone and installed a custom ROM in it, i now wish to do the same on my father's phone. it's been a laggard now, and after rooting it, i hope to install a custom ROM that would increase the phone's performance. he doesn't use the phone for multimedia; just for usual calling, messaging, casual photography at times, and that's it! not even listening to music and/or FM!! :P

he's been complaining about the phone's slouchy behaviour since some time, and before he gets a new phone, i think it makes sense to get the max. out of this phone. there are multiple ways of rooting it i reckon. i will get through with that. but i just need to know what custom ROM would serve him well. for your information, everything is in stock-settings (on froyo, with all stock apps). i went through a few webpages, and found a number of custom ROMs for the phone, even JB ones. would it be a good idea to install a JB custom-ROM?!

thanks for reading! awaiting a few replies.

I think a ginger bread ROM will give the best performance for 2011 mid end phones. JB starts lagging a little on dual core phones too (non Krait cores).
