YES THIS IS A RANT

I am fed up with Sify. Most retarded customer service possible. The guy who comes to fix problems (if he comes) doesnt know Hindi, English nor French!!! How the Fish am i supposed to communicate with him?

Well, i am fed up with their 256K/64K unlimited plans. I need a proper unlimited plan and I am changing. Enough sitting on my ass waiting for sify to come with better plans.

Its like all their plans are customized to screw the user one way or the other.

Now, since I am changing, I wanted to take feedback from you guys about what I should do.

I need minimum 256K download unlimited and >128K uploaded speed.

What I am considering:

- Airtel 999
- BSNL 900UL (256K unlimited)
- Tataindicom Rs 1200 256/256 unlimited plan
- BSNL 512Kbps 1800 plan

Now my queries:

Are the BSNL unlimited plans capped in the upload side? Do we get full 256/256 or lesser upload speeds. Same question for Tataindicome and BSNL 512K.

Since I am put up in BTM 2nd Stage, 11cross, 29th main, I am having availability issues with Airtel.

Please suggest a plan of action.

Regards,
Karan

try your best to get airtel.. awesome service and uptime otherwise tata though its expensive . no experience with the rest

I'm using BSNL 900 UL . yes the upload speed is capped :( , I tried a couple of upload tests and the maximum I got was 87kbps :( .

LOL Karan, If Airtel is available in your area, i don't understand why you are still putting up with the Sify Morons...

I am a satisfied Airtel BB customer (1 downtime in last 1 year, 100/- refunded in next billing cycle), and I haven't heard anyone complain as yet about Airtel's service..the 256 UL plan is 900+99 with a 50/- upgrade to night 512...

Not sure how the Sg pings are though (which I think is important to you)

Edit:

Just noticed you have availability probs with Airtel...

I have heard good stuff about both BSNl and Tata Indicom, though if i were you, I'd go with Indicom...If for nothing else, then for the fact that at least they'll be willing to fix up stuff/provide service over weekends...In my case, if anything were to go wrong with BSNL, i would perhaps have to take a day off to get it fixed

I've been with Airtel from the day they launched their service in Bangalore (4+ years ago) - no issues whatsoever, most stable connection for gaming. Exatt and Sify suck at that. I've used Hathway and ZeeAccess prior to that and they're also retarded.

Karan, if Airtel is not in your area and your internet connection is important, find a new house :P

And is that scheme applicable all over ? Cause i'm plannin to get Exatt's(256UL+512@night) plan ... so if airtel has the same thing, I might as well pay 50 bucks for it ... Please temme ASAP ... the exatt guy's supposed to come tomorrow ...

AFAIK, the speed does DOUBLE at night in the NCR region. I have a 128/64 connection at home (Del) and at night it does go up to 256/128. And I dont pay a single penny extra for it.

I suppose so, but why don't you call up the CC number and get the exact details for your region?

AFAIK, they don'ty advertise this on their website

BSNL gives 1/4th upload speed. So if u have 256UL plan with 256 d/l speed, u will get upload speed of 64.

If ur req. is for upload speed then u should go for airtel which uses SDSL (better for upload speed) tech as against ADSL of BSNL.

... and the CC have no idea whatsoever about it ...

I think they have a separate number for BB complaints...Just pretend you are a subscriber with a 256 UL connection and want an upgrade to the night 512 kbps...they should fwd you to the right people

@karan : as u know me stay in BTM 2nd stage & use airtel ... 128kbps...it doubles to 256 during night time...
previously i had 256...& speed was same during night time too..
i get a bill max of rs800...(incl tax & crap)
As u know i get good pings to SG servers...it shdnt be a problem for you either...:)
In my opinion u must take airtel....

Airtel is the way to go.has good cust service and is generally never down. i have the 128kbps unlimited plan which becomes 256 at nght..bill comes to around 780 bucks including VAT(12.15% on 700)

I am trying my best guys... If anyone can give any sort of assistance in me getting a Airtel connection, I will be very oblidged. :)

How many of you guys know that airtel has a masked connection. ...... if you sign up for 128 ..... what you actually get is between 64 and 96 kbps. and only at night do you get anything close to 128 kbps ....... the supposed 256 kps .. is never more than 160 to 192 kbps .... if you would ever ask them or confront them, they'll do a speed test between their server and your PC... with a 128 KB file ........ and the results will always be fabulous .................. DUHHH !!!! ... so airtel is just a little less retarded. ........... the best connection that I have used till date IMHO is BSNL.

P.S. .... BSNL has a little retarded service though i.e. if you happen to have any issues with your connection, you may have to wait at least a week before it is fixed. which is not the case with airtel, the complaint will be addressed to within 12 hours.

At least airtel dont promise the world and then screw you over.

When I first took my connection, he told me that the speed will be anywhere in between 92-128kbps.

He even told me not to expect full 128kbps all the time.

And he was rigjt. I usually got around 13-14kBps download speed....now on 256 kbps, I get abt 24-26 kBps download speed.

BSNL give amazing speeds....that is the only good point I can think abt. They usually give more than 256 kbps.

But after sales service sucks. I would never take BSNL over airtel for that slight increase in speed. Airtel gives you peace of mind.

@Karan --- If not airtel, then I would say BSNL or Indicom. TATA is more professional but expensive. If you dont mind that, then take it eyes closed. Chaos has TAT indicom and he recommends it highly.

BSNL do give amazing speeds....but service sucks big time.

Concur with Nikhil..

I get 28-30KB in the day and 55-60KB @ night on torrents

However, the ~zero downtime and excellent service more than makes up for it...

Ok guys... so it is between Airtel and Tata now.

Provided either atleast provide connection in my area.

If not god save me. :@

What is the best way to ensure connection from either? I have called up both Airtel and TATA in the morning and talked to the reps. It would be my 4th call to them over 4 months. They keep on reverting back to me saying that they need to upgrade their connectivity to give me a connection. I mean cmon.

TATA rep said they provide in the area but actual feasibility will depend on field engineer's judgement.

Now I am wondering.... if I could get some feedback about the performance of TATA. Where art thou chaos.

I will refer to the ISP thread to get some idea.

If neither works out I have no other choice but to go for a Home 500 or a Home 1800 plan from BSNL. :(
