Bharti Airtel appoints Huawei to supply, manage 4G (LTE) network in Karnataka

Huawei Technologies has been appointed by Bharti Airtel to design, manage and supply 4G TD-LTE networks in Karnataka.

Airtel 4G is launching in Karnataka after Bharti Airtel launched its 4G services in Kolkata a few weeks back. Airtel will initially offer 4G through dongles only because of lack of 4G (LTE) devices in the Indian market.

Chief executive officer at Bharti Airtel, Sanjay Kapoor, had earlier said, "The impending launch of 4G in the country will provide ultra high speed data access, driving fundamental changes in society at large. We look forward to the launch of 4G technology in India."

The 4G/LTE service has the potential to provide download speeds of around 100 Megabits per second (though Airtel isn't currently providing these speeds) when a user is on the move, and can go up to 1 Gigabits per second at a fixed location.

Bharti Airtel has also Partnered Huawei in part of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and is also the 3G provider in the Indian states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Huawei also plans to launch LTE 4G services in Pune, Maharashtra and Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab.

why do mobile users need so much speed anyway? 2Mbps is more than enough for browsing.

The more the merrier

Anyways you can use this on your desktop also using a 4G dongle. Don't tell me you don't dream about speeds such as this, i know i do

Damn!

This same company was banned in Australia to apply for tender process recently. The whole thing was related to IT venture like supplying equipments and stuff.

Recently GOI had expressed apprehension about this company as well as its a Chinese company and we all know how nice these people are with their sly approach and stealth expertise.

Dunno why we keep engaging these shady chinese companies even after a shady record on the world front.

We all know the cheap chinese thingie.. but really is it that important to the dumb babus that they be ignoring the potential threat..?

I mean we all know they are challenged in the common sense dept.. but even when the Aussies had dumbed it down for them..?

Best of luck to their kids when they sit for their interviews.

Imagine, a 4G 20GB Plan for 1000 a month(with FUP, say 512KBps shit UL after 20GB).

It's called broadband on the go.

users are less patient when they are on the move. for example you want to check a spreadsheet document that contains all sales figures that your boss sent you, its size is about 25mb.

if you are on GPRS/EDGE, you will probally skip viewing the latest sales figures as it would take LOT of time. On a 3G connection(assuming its avg speed is 2mbps), you will have to wait for 1minute & 37seconds.

Now, compare this to scenario if you had 100mbps connection on your phone. most likely, you won't use it for downloading large files but even for small file downloads like the spreadsheets, pdf, sync, app install/updates etc. it would be completed almost instantly leading to better user experience & almost no waiting.

However, speeds upto 100mbps are theoretical. I do not expect anything more than 10-20mbps from airtel

Chinese companies like huawai etc the main manufactures of LTE based telecommunication & networking equipment.. Further's Intel's WiMax is more or less a failure as all carriers all deploying LTE network according to IBM data which show that 67% of the operators are considering LTE, because this is the main source of their future market. While only 8% of the operators to consider the use of WiMAX. Lastly, India doesn't have any capability to manufacture telcom hardware on its own nor Govt is spending much on R&D to change that

I think this is the same case all over the world. Infact, Huawei delivered one of the world’s first LTE/EPC commercial networks. do correct me if I am wrong.

the point is, the era of chinese dominance over telecom space has began & we are being left at mercy of them due to Govt inaction

No RnD Dept

No Ammunition in depot

No waste disposal schemes

No good foreign policy

No Spine

Guess Baba Ramdev and Anna were speaking the truth afterall.

Chinese companies like Qualcomm/huawai etc are the main manufactures of LTE based telecommunication & networking equipment..

yeah true, but those excel/ pdf viewers are a small crowd. why roll out something costly to appease a small section of society and take money from everyone else who dont use it?

a small correction: Qualcomm is a USA based company. not chinese.

Pray, tell us how they do that. They're not increasing 3G or 2G rates.

Even they are banned in US to sell network equipments. Beacuse of close link between the company chief and the PLA (People's Liberation Army). Indian govt also banned them citing security threats in 2010... seems like Huawei persuaded the govt (politicians)... God bless India.

Do we have qualified personnels and the RnD (w.e we have on that) to properly ascertain that the equipments such companies sell are not carrying any payloads/hardware mods for carrying out hacks on the systems..??

And can these companies be sued if anything (God forbids) is found on the similar lines..??

most of the network devices be it. Photon and similar dongols, wireless PNT connections and various other communicating devices available are products of Huawei.

Don't know why people are cribbing so much for LTE and 4g given most of them are using the same company devices
