Graphic Cards big 6600 128mb agp

Guys wanting to purchase a "cheap" pci-e nvidia 66xx series card , should wait for the soon to be released , SLI capable , 6600LE cards. it should be avialable here for around 5K or less (guessing and hoping). (usd 60 targetted international retail price)

core = 425 mhz

Memory = 1000mhz.

pipes = 4 (but easily unlockable to 8 -)
Can be used in sli config with or without sli bridge (via the pci-e bus)

I seriously doubt that the card will use 1000mhz ram,more likely ddr 1 400-550mhz.GDDR3 is not used even on the 6800NU by most mfg.s due to cost so its unlikely to be used on this card.Correct me if I am wrong,Deepak.
Infact cards like the 6600GT would be better served by a 256-bit bus on older 2.8ns GDDR1 but that would add to cost on Nvidia's side(256-bit bus= complex design=higher transistor count=lower yields per wafer) which it doesn't want.The final cost to the user should be the same though.
PS:The original design calls for DDR1 but some mfg.s do use GDDR3 on it.However its unlikely that Pine/XFX will do it and more unlikely is that those cards will reach here.

64bit memory bus. Also I dont think it'll have 1GHz memory. Its more likely to have the same 550MHz ddr1 that the 6600 vanilla has.

@UT,

Although the reference board has 500mhz GDDR1 memory.

some co's may use the 6600GT pcb with 1 ghz GDDR3 memory on it, which is a ;) :D :clap:

@ Chaos,

it has 128 bit memory interface.

@UT,
It is 1000mhz ddr speed (obvious isn't it for a "CHEAP" $60 Card)
and where have i mentioned anything about GDDR3 ??:huh:
Although some co's may use the 6600GT pcb with GDDR3 memory on it is a seperate issue.;)

DJ,no offense but what exactly do u mean by 1000mhz ddr "speed"? The fastest available GDDR is 2.2ns/900mhz(rare),the 2.8ns/714mhz variety are common.
1000mhz is gddr3 territory.
All "ddr" speeds I mention here are in terms of equivalent SDR,the normal convention followed for DDR.

UT, see my edited post above. The above after @ut was retyped by my young, college going, extra smart nephew, while i was on the phone.
BTW, i am wondering (just a point to ponder):

What would be its performance in sli mode , if all the 8 pipes are unlocked and both the cards are run at o/c speed of say 475 ~ 500 core gpu and 1000 ~ 1100 memory speed. (GDDR3 chips)
and lets assume the cards costs about $100 each (due to it using 1 ghz gddr3 rams)
sli for the entry level class ...???

No chance of finding GDDR3 on a sub 100$ card for sometime. Those 2ns chips cost a lot of money. I havent seen GDDR3 on a 6600 vanilla card either. The max memclock that i've seen is 800MHz on the MSI Diamond edition 6600 which has 400 core and 1GHz ram clocks. But that card is nearly as expensive as a GT so its of no use.

Some companies like Galaxy would have 6600LE with gddr3 RAMs.
But, it can happen that it may turn out later that 6200nonTC could be a better buy than the 6600LE, 'cause both cards are based on the same core and 6200nonTC are known to be good overclockers, so there would be a strong possibility that BIOS of 6600LE can be flashed on 6200nonTC.

xpertvision came out with their plain 6600 card 2 months back with 2.2ns GDDR3 rams. a.k.a msi diamond edition 6600. and the price was around Rs. 5.7K (S$210).

2.2ns = 900 mhz in theory but the cards were rated at 800 mhz a.k.a msi.
much water has flowed down the river ganges since then.

Digitimes had reported that these 6600le cards, having refrence 500 GDDR1 mhz memory would be sold for $40 in 1000 quantity lots. so a retail price of 50 to 60 usd is very realistic.

And for 128 mb gddr3 rams a price of near about usd 100 ~ 110 per card in August / September is not impossible. and if you purchase the card in sli kit (2 pieces) there would be a further discount.

anyways i had hypothetically posed the question about sli for around 200 usd using two cheap and overclocked graphic card.

By then the 7600 will likely be out,pushing the 6600Gt into the $120 bracket anyway(its $150-$160 now) so the point is moot.
And the 4->8 pipe unlock is not certain,the newer steppings of the 6200 can't be unlocked and the card may be a derivative of the NV44 not the NV43.
Lets wait and watch.

Then make sure the card is NV43L revision A1.A4 and later are known not to unlock.
BTW: Even a 6600GT@550/1120 chokes sometimes(eg. DOOM3,ultra with image downsize limit maunally configured to 512,4xaa+8xaf :D ),towards the end of "hell" when that gigantic monster(biggest in D3) came it choked badly ,I had to disbale vsync and reduce aa to 2x to maintain playability.
Even in riddick,you can only do 1024x768 with AA+AF,so getting anything lesser won't let you "enjoy" in the truest sense of the word.
IMHO anything lesser than a 6600GT/6800NU is a waste now. ;)

6600 gt choked????????? it didnt choke for me... i just finished playing doom3 .. ultra settings/1280*1024/8x AA/ 16xAS .. no V-sync.. and it did not choke... plus i had lots of other stuff runnning tooo..
though i dont know about your settings... what you mean by "eg. DOOM3,ultra with image downsize limit maunally configured to 512" ???????
btw anyone played stolen???? i cant play it at 1280*1024 it says that resolution is not supported.. and at any other resolution the gameis very slow even at low settings.. i dunno why.... any ideas??

^^LOL I'm sure ur are joking unless u call 10fps not choking :P. At the settings you mentioned, (Ultra, 1280, 8xAA, 16xAF) even a 6800Ultra would probably choke.

Among the relatively better looking games I tried only q3a and nr2003 run smooth (>50fps) at 1280x960 8xS aa.
It's perfect for some other older pc, psx and n64 games.

ohh sorry my mistake..
me playing at ultra settings/1280*1024/2x antialiasing (ingame settings)
btw if i say that AS is 16xs in the nvidia panel... does it apply in game??
i get playable framerates at any stage in the game... (shadows/specular/bump map/v-sync off.... ) ..
i guess thats sane settings now.. lolz.z.......
