Hi. I want to buy an apache rtr 160. I want only a black one. I have some doubts,
1. What's the main difference between 160 and 160 fi?
2. I've heard that rtr160 fi is not available in black. So is the 160 regular edition still available or has it been stopped?
3. Is the pulsar 150 dts-si still a good choice or is an out dated one?
4. Could you please give the on road price of 160s and pulsar 150 in bangalore ?
I use this bike mostly to go to college and i mostly stayaway from highway riding.

1.Difference - Fuel injection Technology & rear Disk Brake.

2.why not get a graphite grey matte finish color with black racing stripes as it's the only type of different color offered.

3.I'll suggest you not to go with pulsar.

why don't you get RTR 180 as while driving you can't even notice if the vehicle is FI or normal one.

RTR180 is the most powerful TVS vehicle till today.

if you've got a lil more then why not get a new KARIZMA ZMR??

dude first of all decide the Budget

RTR carb and Fi difference
FI will fetch you a couple of more KMPL and better throttle response, which is anyway better in carb RTR than other bikes even p220 and ZMA.

in 150 cc class
P150 old, but looks good with new additions
RTR 160 carb bike to go for, stretch a bit and get the dual disk version.
SUZUKI 150cc very smooth and gr8 highway cruiser due to the 6th cog
HH and Honda bikes..good nothing special except superb quality "honda"

All of these are similarly priced, RTR comes out as PErformance bike while HH, Honda bike excel in quality and resale value. The average varies just 4-5 KMPL in similar riding conditions.
Go for RTR with rear disk

150+ cc
RTR 180 and P180 : ride and decide
RTR still holds it racing DNA in this class too.

ZMA and P220 are a bit heavy on pocket for a student esp.

Don't even think abt FZ16 and likes. these bikes are just fashion statements and not a machine that you wanna cherish for years. As a bike not bad, but better ones are available. Low avg too.

Thanks. My budget is upto 70k. I can't go for a bike higher than 160 cc as i found it a lot difficult to convince my dad to push upto 150cc as he was thinking of a 100cc bike for me. So, in comparison with all 150s, you guys are sayin rtr160 is the best overall. So, how much extra the one with rear disk would cost?
Please give me on road price of rtr 160 regular and fi if possible.

If you stay away from highway riding, then give FZ-S and Fazer a good thought. They are not good for highways, but really gr8 for short trips, where u wont go above 80~90. They have excellent road grip, tight controls and maneuvers, and good initials/pickup upto 3rd gear [4th is ok, but 5th lacks speed].

Its cons are >

gives horrible mileage on high speeds

avg mileage also less bout 42~45.

price> 74 for FZS and some 80 for Fazer.

pros>

Gr8 looks

control

road grip [100 front tyre and 140 rear opposed to others with 80 front and 100 rear]

Yamaha :D

I have an RTR Fi. I have used the RTR 160 and the RTR 180 as well. Following are my 2 cents:

1. The 160 Fi has a much better crisper response and power band and a smoother power delivery. the power curve is slightly offset due to the freeer exhaust(no cat-con). Vibes are much contained.

2. 160 also comes with a rear disc now. But u will have to live with a slightly rougher engine.

3. 180 is a bit more lazy revving than the 160. It though has higher torque, power ratings and better power-to-weight ratio. It also has vibes although not as much as the 160. U will also have to remember that being short stroke engines, the Apache is more prone to vibes than any other bike!

4. FZ, FZ-S and Fazer are totally worthless VFM offerings. For the same price ur better off getting the 220DTS-i for ~75K ex-showroom. (I also have an R15 BTW)

5. The Apache bikes are good for city rides but not on long highways. the ergos are not suited for that. Also if ur anything above 5 feet 8 inches, please give up on the Apache.

I recently TD most of the 150~180cc bikes, i'd choose suzuki GS150 anyday, it is so much refined and overall quality is very good too. It has got a normal seating position unlike rtr and FZ. Really good for city ride imo with its better kmpl compared to other bikes.

dude, my friend did Mumabi to leh-ladakh, twice, on RTR 160 carb.

Its not that u wont reach the destination, but the sitting posture of bikes like Unicon and GS150 are more comfortable for long rides, and u ll feel less pain in @$$ and back. :D

@geek ashish: FYI, I did Chennai-Ladakh-Chennai on my RTR 160 Fi this July!! The bike was a brand new one with just 5K on the odo. Bought on Jan - 14, 2009. Thats why I gave my comments. And having used an R15 for various long touring rides and city commute, I know how sporty position can be and where the RTR is flawed! I meant exactly what dOm1naTOr says.

@malhotraraul: In fact its the opposite. Fi bikes gve BETTER mileage than their carb offerings due to a lot more precise fuel metering.

@Saiyan: Ur right about the refinement and seating comfort of the GS150.

I have an fz-s, the riding position is good, engine is excellent for city driving, and the suspension is rock hard... it hurts :(

will try the softest setting and let you know if you are interested.

the handling is excellent, its very flickable, much moreso than the karizma as well

since i am 6'3", i cant change gears on the R15, and the apache is also uncomfortable, but the fz is good :)

havent tried much else, drove a unicorn like 5 years back

Owns a RTR180.Definitely Recommend this Over RTR160.All Apache's have Vibration issue(not a big thing!) in 60-70kmph speed range.RTR180 got the Least Vibrations.

Thanks. I will go with rtr 160 or rtr 180. Will ride my friend's 180 once which he is getting tomorrow.

^Good.Remember that RTR's got a real sporty riding position.Apart from that ,it is real VFM.As Far As RTR FI 160 is considered, Servicing is a issue since all TVS Service Centres are not capable enough to handle FI service(needs few lakhs more for instrumentation)
