Hi everybody

Huge problem has come. I was facing problem like system was hanging while booting or playing videos for 2-3 days. And today did not show any display. After removing the hard disk display is coming. Its Segate ST3500320AS model no and i found this model is effected by bad firmware. So can i update its firmware now as after putting it in PC does not show anything. I have lots of data in it you know downloaded movies and all which takes lots of time. I dont want to loose data. Please help if any thing is possible.

Thanks

Data recovery will cost you, check with data recovery specialists like Stellar in Mumbai. Quotes are no charge, but the estimates vary from few thousand to a lakh plus depending on the effort required.

The drive is as good as gone, so you should contact seagate service center and prepare to RMA the drive. They do not do any data recovery so dont expect anything from them except a replacement.

Me too faced same problem. If you go for datarecovery from Seagate, cost you a fortune. Local data recovery may workout around 3 K. But you wont get a new disk fro seagate warranty. I had opted for a replacement disk since the whole batch of the disk got problem. If I had time and money, should have gone to consumer court ans sue Seagate. Because the data is precious for the user. They cannot say that will replace the disk without providing free data recovery. This is cheating. Anyway no more seagate HDD in future.

Ok so this is how u do it:

Go to the Seagate center and show them the drive.

They will say it is dead and needs to be replaced.

Next u say - u need to go for data recovery before replacement.

They will give u a signed letter on the letterhead that states: Drive was inspected and declared dead & under warranty. Under customer request, customer will do data recovery and then provide dead unit for replacement under warranty.

Do ur data recovery.

Give the drive for replacement.

Thats it!
