Seems like theres an install limit in Bioshock. After Switch mentioned about it in another thread, I did some re(google)search and heres what I found.

Bioshock's copy-protection only allows the game to be installed twice - Neoseeker News Article

Simultaneous Installgate 07: 2K Ups BioShock Install Limit, Plans FOV Adjustment Patch - Shacknews - PC Games, PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Wii video game news, previews and downloads

Though the limit has been raised to 5 now, its still a really Stoopid restriction to say the least... :@ If thats how 2k Games wanna play it, then people would rather get a pirated version than an authentic one. :P

What the limit means...

1. You can Install Bioshock on upto 5 computers. (Good)
2. You can Install Bioshock on your own machine upto 5 times (Bad)

So if for some reason you have to format and reinstall Window and install Bioshock, the max times you can activate it is 5. After that it wouldn't activate and you would have to get a new copy of the game. This is somewhat similar to what is found in OEM versions Vista, except that in the case of Bioshock, its present in all flavors, Retail DVD, STEAM and Direct2Drive.

2k Games Clarified that if the game is un-installed before reinstalling again, then the activation count would not be decreased, so you are gonna format or upgrade your machine, you have to first install the game first, how ridiculous. Again many people are complaining that the activation count decreased in spite of un-installation before re-install. And what if the person has to format or upgrade his machine without chance for un-install.

Lets see what 2k Games does ...

After reading one of the horror stories related to the install limit of 2, I've decided not to buy this game - check the last few Shock posts at PC Gamer

they have had this one chance of coming up with a really good game and putting their name in fps history books (i'vent seen review ratings less than 9/10 on any site for this game)....and still they managed to blow it apart with this non-sensical limit.....the customer is paying for your game, wtf does it matter how many times he reinstalls it.....its his game...he paid for it....

Which ones exactly are you talking abt?? You mean the one where he goes home and it doesnt work and he is wating for 2K games to call him and give him a new activation code?

Many people I know, including myself, buy legit copies... things like this are a complete turn-off.

Yes, Its a complete turn off for people who want to legit version. Its like 2K Games is practically begging the people to get a pirated version of the game.

the new limit for installs is 5

and you can install it as many times as you want as long as you properly uninstall the game from a comp

I have mentioned that in the first post itself :P, The limit has been increased to 5, but why have the limit at all.

As for the uninstall, I have also mentioned about that. The system is not reliable and several people have lost an activation in spite of uninstalling. Also its not always possible to uninstall.

How difficult it is to reach them, then they want a pic of the actual game CD and he still has to wait... I've called Microsoft twice to activate XP because apparently it has a limit too, and they have never asked for a pic of my XP CD :S

first they make a game that probably 5% of the PCs in the world can actually manage to run, and then they put an installation limit... what were they thinking :P

that is a totally false statement dude pple are actually runing the game with a 8600gt on high setttings.. and some of them are actually managing to play the game on their onboard display so ...

And yeah this totally sucks.. i was totaly gonna buy the legit version of the game.. bt now might as well wait for the ahem one :P

^ i was a exaggerating a bit of course....:P

the game will hardly be enjoyable on onboard and lower end graphic cards......

But the point was, its stupid for them to put an installation cap on games with relatively high requirements.....

absolutely ridiculous. They're courting disaster when they thumb their noses at would be original copy buyers. What a f*** up of an amazing game...

Shrey you forget most gamers in europe and the states have high end rigs...

This is exactly why you should buy it over steam :P...

As I mentioned twice in my posts already, the activation count restriction is present in all versions of Bioshock, be it Retail DVD, STEAM or Direct2Drive. :P.

So no use of buying it over STEAM.
