Foreign policy remains a forte of this govt. Harsh has written a book on the last five years which explains what this govt was doing and thinking. The book discussion is interesting and also shows how subtle this subject can be. Not so simple as saying style over substance


Invariably the question pops up that what is so great with FP under Modi ? Energy

Jetting off all over the place was to present ourselves to the world. This i think was because we perceived China making inroads so it was get out, be seen and heard in as many fora possible.

The MEA has been given a free hand to do their stuff and they've been good at it. I think Jai Shankar had a major role here with the rest of the secretariat.

Then people will say show me the deliverables. The deliverable here isn't a signed contract or deal like the nuke one. More a change from the earlier way of thinking which we stuck to regardless of whether reality fit or not. One that was still stuck in the cold war. This change then creates a new process. Another direction to go with various powers. Many things here under military diplomacy.

By the time the next elections come around in 2024 we will be a $5 bn economy. The way we interact will be different compared to now and i think the foundations for that have been set over the last five years. Just as well as the earlier order does not seem to apply any more. The way the Americans & China interact with each and us isn't the same as earlier. Jaishankar says we have to manouver to get into a good position so as to

Cultivate America
Steady Russia
Manage China
Enthuse Japan
Attend to Europe

More ambitious than in the past

So another NSSO report (after the 1st one revealed that jobs are at 45 years low) has shown that NDA govt. fudged GDP numbers when they 'tweaked' the GDP calculation formula. Apparently, 37% of companies' output that was used to calculate the numbers are not traceable.

No jobs data worth anything means any conclusions can be tweaked either way. Made to say whatever.

GDP data and growth rate is done at the CSO. Anyone ask them to explain ?

Apparently, 37% of companies' output that was used to calculate the numbers are not traceable.

The CSO hasn't responded yet, but the FinMin has said that about 21% are not in the services sector but still valid to the GDP and the remaining 17% will come down as the DB 'evolves'.

Yes. You won't be able to say $5B $5 Trillion economy unless someone does the numbers.

Replying to the comment previous that says jobs at 45 yr low ?

55% of the indian economy is in informal sector. This information isn't captured well. So saying there is a low or high is meaningless.

manufacturing 25% agriculture 15% ITES 5% rest is informal for 55% (flower seller on up to small companies)

Barring some major crisis , a 7% growth rate means nominal GDP doubles in ten years. So less than ten to reach $5bn

If one takes into account the black economy, you can add 60% of the declared white and arrive at $4bn presently.

You understand that NSSO is a govt agency with statisticians working for them and has been publishing these reports every year.
Why would a govt agency compile a report that would embarrass the govt.
Not everything is a conspiracy.
 
He is not saying that its a conspiracy. Just that its only part of the data.

From what I read, these organizations have been prevented from releasing the reports in recent years just because it would embarrass the govt. The previous report that talked about the 45 year low on job was also leaked out, but released formally.

As for fudging numbers, how do you think the Gujarat success story was painted? The entire premise of the success is based on how much the Adani group screwed over the people.

The data isn't reliable so it could be interpreted in any way. To embarrass the govt the data would have to reliable to start with.

Indian jobs data as it stands presently is bunk.
 
Just as fake as in two other states chattisgarh and madhya Pradesh which were also ruled by BJP. The states are declared power surplus without being anywhere close to that state and made to sign power sharing agreements with other states. Because of except for the main cities, all other smaller places have suffer lengthy Power cuts every summer. Was in Gujarat, during march. Who said open defecation has stopped ? He / she should go to the rural areas and see. That's where feku says toilets have been built. Who is using them ? How to use without water ? Tissue paper ?? [emoji1787]

Yes and every BJP handle tweeted the video and then realised the enormous boo boo done by feku and started deleting it.
