BLACK and WHITE display on a PS 2

Hey.. i recently bought a couple of games which i think were all "PAL" version.
My PS 2 is a NTSC/J console.

The result is = when i play PAL games on a NTSC console, the display is always black and white !!

I've already tried changing the cables(which eventually i figured had nothing to do with the b&w display in the first place)

Is there any way of fixing this WITHOUT buying a PAL to NTSC converter ?

yeah, u can buy a new tv,

but being honest that converter costs less than Rs. 200,

why dont u just buy that?

Best option is to buy the converter. I did the same and it worked
