There have been numerous reports from users of GeForce RTX 30+ series cards experiencing black screen issues since NVIDIA launched the first dedicated drivers for the RTX 50 series (572 branch).

On the NVIDIA forums, there are countless reports about black screen issues (new threads or even under the last Game Ready driver release). The problem is not only affecting RTX 50 series cards but also RTX 40 and 30 series cards. Users of which are usually advised not to install the latest drivers. For RTX 50 owners, there are no older drivers available, so any issues they have can only be fixed by NVIDIA.

It seems that there are many solutions, but they do not seem to work for every user. Perhaps it is not just one problem but a culmination of many, possibly not even related to the GPU but to display cables, PCle specs or their implementation. Many have noticed that changes in clocks, voltages, and even monitor refresh rates can significantly reduce such problems.

NVIDIA has now confirmed that they are investigating these reports. However, it is unclear if this is a software issue that can be resolved by drivers, as it was not mentioned in the last graphics driver changelog.

It seems they have released an updated driver on 20th Feb again which addresses this problem? Mentioned as a fix related to extended sleep state. Version is 572.47. I just updated to it and I am not seeing any such problems on my 3070 (on HDMI).

no it is actually those exact drivers which seem to be causing the issue, not for all but many have experienced it, and Nvidia themselves have started an investigation into the issue, look at the Nvidia source I provided that is the thread relating to 572.47 update.

Interesting. I was able to successfully resume my PC from sleep after the update. Let's hope they iron out the issue soon. If I do observe some issues, I might roll back to a previous version with ddu and nvcleanstall.

OT, but google seems to be down for the past hour or so. Even impacts YouTube somewhat. Anyone else facing this problem?

Both YT & Google are working for me since I logged into TE half an hour ago. No problem.

NVIDIA confirms fix for GeForce RTX black screen issues: VBIOS and new driver coming this week

The black screen issues faced by people with 30, 40 and 50 series GPUs finally has a fix from Nvidia and it is arriving next week. It seems to be a VBIOS and drivers issue but Nvidia has not yet confirmed what the particular issue was.

However, it seems that the first fixes are already underway. A Redditor confirms that their RTX 5080 card has just received a VBIOS update, and this firmware has fixed the issue entirely. If you have an MSI card, worth checking if there’s an update for you already.

NVIDIA representative confirmed that this is indeed part of the fix, and not all cards will require VBIOS updates. For others, there will be a driver update. NVIDIA has shipped small firmware updates with drivers or as a separate download previously, so this is not very surprising. However, this confirms that the cause of the black screen issue might be the same across all cards, and for some gamers, the fix will be simpler to implement.
