Today, we welcome RIM’s latest products, first and most importantly being their new OS (on which the entire company’s future lies upon) dubbed Blackberry 10. BB10 is not an entirely new OS. It builds upon the OS that RIM’s (failed) tablet Playbook launched with (based on the QNX Platform). Perhaps that is why Blackberry PlayBook will also get updated to BB10 OS (a last hurray for all owners?).

The New BB10 Features

RIM has launched a Slew of New Features and we shall link them all to you for your viewing pleasure.
Blackberry Hub

With the new BlackBerry® it's even easier to stay close to what's important to you. Peek into the BlackBerry Hub from any app or screen with a swipe to effortlessly flow in and out of your messages and conversations.
Notifications such as wall posts, friend requests, Twitter mentions, new followers, and connection requests are integrated and organized in the BlackBerry Hub. With BlackBerry, you have total control. Choose to reply, or let the screen snap back if your messages can wait. You can even respond or post to LinkedIn®, Twitter®, foursquare, BBM™ and Facebook®, without leaving BlackBerry Hub.
Blackberry Flow & Peak

BlackBerry® 10 lets you quickly access and manage everything in your world. Messages, social updates, app notifications and more. BlackBerry 10 breaks down the barriers with a totally integrated seamless experience. And that means you can get more done, faster and smarter with every touch unlike any other mobile experience. Everything is always at your fingertips.
Blackberry Remember

BlackBerry Remember on BlackBerry 10 allows you to compile notes, reminders and web clippings all in one spot.

These are not the only new Blackberry inbuilt apps that are getting updated (or introduced). One of Blackberry's strongest standpoints and often a key point for selling the phone, RIM's BBM Messenger for Blackberry is also getting updated with a slew of new features.

The new BB10 OS is based on gestures (you must have seen the Ubuntu OS for phones video, something like that, or Jolla's Sailfish). But thankfully there's only a slight learning curve to it, so no worries guys. BB10 can run up to 8 apps in the background. And bringing them back to the front is also easy and just requires a tap or two. Killing an app requires you to tap the cross mark, unlike flinging it away like in the Playbook.
BBM gets new features

The video above highlights some of the cool new features in BBM in BB10. Engadget's review of the Blackberry 10 says that:
The virtual keyboard in BlackBerry 10 is good. Really good. It's the best stock keyboard of any mobile OS at the moment.

That's good news for you BBM-a-holics who fear that a full touch screen keyboard might reduces your words per minute.

BBM gets new features such as Voice or Video chat, which in my opinion is simply fantastic. All this is for free, so you can make voice calls over WiFi or Video calls for free and that is just amazing, we have to repeat saying it. There is also a screen sharing feature (reminds me of my time spent with Skype). Engadget writes (jokingly) that you could share the puzzle you're stuck at with your friends asking for help.
Voice Recognition

Voice Recognition makes an entry into the list of features. Honestly, after Apple's Siri and Google Now, this was pretty inevitable. We know what Microsoft has it's own implementation with WP8 as well, but like RIM it goes unnamed (not a personality like Siri).
Blackberry Protect

There's Blackberry Protect which is the integrated security tool which lets you find your phone in case you get parted with your beloved. With Blackberry's site, you can make your phone play a sound or display a message as well as find it's location. Remote locking is of course, present as well. In the worst case scenario, you can Wipe all data remotely as well.
Blackberry World

Blackberry 10 platform is launching with 70,000 apps for the two smartphones. That's more than any other platform ever had at their launch, which is a nice feat (considering how badly they need it).

On the Social Side...

...we have apps like
  • Facebook
  • LinkedIn
  • Whatsapp
  • Foursquare

Cloud Storage is covered by...
  • Dropbox
  • Box

There's gaming as well...

....from multiple partners like
  • Rovio
  • EA Games
  • Gameloft
  • Disney

...and game titles such as
  • Angry Birds Star Wars HD
  • Where's my Water
  • Where's my Perry
  • Dead Space
  • Plants vs Zombies
  • Fruit Ninja

For those of you who are looking to buy a device based on this OS, Angry Birds Star Wars HD will be free for the first one million and a quarter BB10 users (a nice thank you note).
More on Stock Apps

There's the Blackberry Story Maker that allows you to create your own movies with the videos and pictures you got. Pretty neat, and handy as well.

BB10's browser is said to be good as per Engadget. One particular feature that will get people's attention is the ability to render Flash. Yes, BB10's browser has Flash support. Although it is turned off at default, it is nice that the feature is present at all instead of being completely removed and making it difficult to obtain and install it. It shouldn't be that way. The option should remain, as in BB10's case.

Maps is something BB10 doesn't excel at. The Maps app bundled in is said to be functional at best, which is kind of a damper. Lets say you should stick to Google Maps for now (and later too).
BB 10: Certified FRESH

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=fOjLxtFUY1I

Blackberry has a refreshed new look with new apps and a new feel altogether. Truly, the OS has received a breath of fresh air and the hardware packed in the new devices makes sure that multi-tasking is a breeze and everybody gets the best experience.
