Hi guys,
Dad's finally decided to change is old Nokia in liue for a Blackberry, he is getting it for Rs13900, is the price right ?

Does it support opening / editing word, excel and powerpoint files natively ?

How is the OS and UI ? I mean does it slow down with time ? Hangup ever ? The Nokia has been acceptable in that respect so dad is a bit suspect on the BB.

No 3G is a downer, but airtel EDGE imo is good enuf, please feel free to drop any more suggestions / comments.

Requirements: A strictly business phone under 15k which handles MS word (doc, docx, ppt, pptx, xls, xlsx) files natively.

E71 is the way to go. Has all the features.

E71 looks really dull in my opinions (and dad), the Bold 8520 looks classy. I have read that the 8520 is actually better than the E71

My dad got an E71 he got the silver one though you may wanna take a look at the black one. It has Wifi/3g/Edge/GPS/Bluetooth and most of all its Symbian so apps for doing anything out there. Browsing is lightning fast on Airtel MO using Opera Mini. I have used FB on it many times.

In-fact if he doesn't need so many things he might consider the E63 as well which lacks GPS and has a 2MP camera, but comes with colours like Red and Blue.

Anyways its up to him and its his decision.

Forgot to mention, the BB 8520 costs 13.5k and the E71 around 17k, budget is strictly less than 15k.

i just love my black berry ! i have a nokia 5800 as well ! but thats history. stick to the blackberry and u will get it for 13.5

yeah blackberry is cool and what bb can do no other phones can and i agree what nokia can do bb cant so choose according to your use.

my question here is about integrated MS Office to open and edit word/ppt and xls files can BB 8520 do it natively ? I know that the higher end BB do it, but what about the BB 8520 ?

PPT, XLS and DOC are supported.

I'd still suggest the BB, the email integration is absolutely brilliant. Not to mention gtalk and Windows live integration as well.

Doesn't slow down with time, even when filled with various apps and games(I have the bold 2 though.. not the curve).

Can you please explain the features which are exclusive to Blackberry? Similarly for Nokia?

if his usage involves a lot of email/web browsing then curve is the way to go . also afaik the default office software on curve can only read and not edit documents , you'd have to upgrade it .

also e71's keyboard is pretty cramped , even e63 has a better keypad .

Ultimately its his choice tell him to go to a good shop and get a demo of the models hes interested in let him use them and only then can your Dad decide.

Also I feel Symbian is the way to go.

Writing this post from a gemini. The phone is brilliant. After the arrival of the app. Store it has become more fun. The OS is solid(never lags). Browsing is good(useing bolt, opera mini). Haven't used e71 ever, but have tried my hands on friend's e63 and e75. Curve pwn's them in terms of performence (512mhz proccy). The optical tracer is very responsive and accurate. Dedicated media keys present on top of the phone are not so great though.

moral of the story is its best if you need for mails chat and even good that 299 plan is best with unlimited emails and im. and rest of the things can be done with wifi

Should I ban you for making loose statements and not justifying your point.
