Graphic Cards Blue screen while playing any game with Palit 4850

Hey all,

I recently got a Palit 4850 dual slot gfx, the one with the golden fan. Have updated with the Catalyst 8.10 drivers and also the Farcry 2 hotfix from Ati website. The moment i start playing any game, it works for 2-3 minutes and then i get the dreaded BSOD/RSOD with the atikmdag.dll and begins to dump memory, finally it restarts on its own. Sometimes if i alt-tab to the desktop, i see the bubble message/warning coming with the same atikmdag.dll has been recovered from a serious error. Have been through google and cudnt really find a good solution. It is that i am missing something like Vista SP1 or some other critical patches from MS?

Regarding temperature, i am using Riva Tuner 2.11, the temps arent really high, idles at around 39 and at load its around 58-62deg max. I have even tried to underclock the card from 993 to 902 and still the same issue. Fan speed has been increased to 100% from riva tuner itself. Also, have tried to uninstall all the ATI drivers/CCC etc, and downloaded a new set of drivers without the CCC from ATi websites, no go. Is it that the card is faulty ?

Any help would be appreciated !!
Regards,
Anish

Did you download the ATI drivers supporting Vista??

BSODs generally result from software conflicts.

Not sure if your missing any critical patches from MS,could be the problem...

Wait for more inputs though..

Is this a fresh install of Vista? If not, you'll need to run Driver Cleaner Pro to remove any traces of earlier gfx drivers.

yes sir!.. its a fresh Vista installation. Installed only the driver and not the CCC. still the same issue. I will still try to format it and install XP as well as Vista as dual and see what the outcome is. At present i have Vista Home Basic 32 bit. But i will now try to install the 64 Home Premium and see if the issue still persists. :)

i dont have any problem at my same card

i run many gaems i run farcry it work great on ultra at 1600x1200

if u face bsod at 2-10 min check memory dio problem and try change the ram at different slot at you board

Roger Arun, noted down :) .. will try to rearrange the rams. Have 2x2 GB, so will swap em and see if they make any difference. But i never had a problem with 8800GT : I twas only when i got this card :S

swap ram,re-install driver/CCC...

Or trying doing the same after installing a different OS.

IF everything fails, you can always test your card in another rig to rule out possibilities of your card being at fault.

dude, uninstall the hotfix drivers, the hotfix drivers are only for crossfire and
x2 cards, hotfix has no performance improvements on a single hd 4850, so only use the catalyst 8.10 drivers right now, hotfix drivers are moreover not fully tested by ATi ( not whql certified)and not recommended for issues other than as stated in the ati site...

Dunno if this was related, but even my Sapphire restarted the moment i got into the game menu! With the latest drivers and stuff..

I had the same issue back in the 8800GTS 320MB days when Vista was new ... I tried everything 4m OS to all diff cards/diff systems and underclocking, etc.

The problem was my PSU, wasn't getting enuff power 2 run a 880GTS 320MB with a 65nm E6750 !!!

Upgraded to a Antec TPT 550W n I was sorted.

I believe U are on CM Xtreem 600W, try with a VX450 or better 2 C it it sorts out.

issue resolved :) ... reinstalled Vista Home premium and installed only the drivers by the Have Disk feature in Add Hardware (control panel).
Been playing Hells Highway since 2 hours and no crash or BSOD :hap2:

Thanks a millions for all the help ppl !

Ahh good, i was thinking it might be our PSU as has33 said coz we both have EP 600W :(

My problem dint get fixed even by reinstallation of Vista

yeah i tried everthing.i dont think there's even any problem with the psu i have a corsair vx450.
