Hi,

I shoot a lot of Photos, and the Integrity of my data is of Prime Importance.

While i have a Hard-Disk for back-up but still want to have a secondary back-up medium to guard against HDD failures.

I prefer buying most of my gear off B&H, all my photography gear, hard-disks etc has been bought off there.

Which one of these would you gentlemen suggest for me to buy & what pros/cons are there for me to know from existing BluRay Burner users?

Thanks for your help in advance :thumb:

Thanks mate.

I have 2 more questions about it:

1. What would be its price in India? Because i would prefer to buy it from here if its the same price as US

2. The Sony BWU-500S's description says "Plays Back 3D Blu-ray Content" - The Poineer one wouldnt?

Just got terribly busy & then right now - this > http://www.techenclave.com/storage-solutions/wd-1tb-internal-hdd-problem-201834.html

I'm now seriously contemplating ordering one of these > BluRay Burners any must-know info about them?

Also, how much do BluRay SL & DL discs cost in India?
Are they freely available?

At B&H, TDK 10 Disks with Individual Cases: $27.50 or roughly Rs.1300/- @ Rs.130 a disk

Sony BluRay 10 Discs Pack is $24.99 or roughly Rs.1200/- @ Rs.120 a disk

Verbatim 20-Pack Spindle Price: $23.80 or roughly Rs.1150/- @ Rs. 57 a disk

I'm perfectly OK with paying Rs.57 to back-up 25GB of data which should hopefully last fine for atleast 2~3 years if not more (assuming it is & will be, handled with great care).
25GB for 1 disk x 20 = 500GB of back-up @ Rs.1150

Does my logic make sense or............ ?

^Though these discs seem to have a better shelf life but my experience with disks always was that some data on the disk eventually refused to copy over to my computer after a year or so. I used to have around 350+ DVDs full of data at a time (in college).

If you can confirm that these disks can last for 2-3 years, then it is a superb investment. Anything's better than loss of important data.

I have been using Memorex (Imation brand) BD-Rs for past 1 yr (Imported directly from US). They don't seem to have any issue till now (spindle of 30). But I have got around 4 BDs which failed to burn properly. I paid around Rs. 2600 for them. So price of 1 BD came to around Rs. 87.

So this time I tried Sony (spindle of 25) (Imported directly from Japan via ebay). This time I paid around Rs. 2550. But this time too out of 6 BDs I have tried, 2 failed.

Also interesting thing is the media ID for both of them is same. This means they were manufactured by same company. So atleast in case you want to buy Sony, you could also buy Imation/Memorex instead as it is going to be slightly cheaper.

P.S. Achilles, For your calculations, you haven't considered customs duty + shipping charges (+ octroi for Mumbai) to India. They can be significant :)

VIA icc World the BD's are Available at around rs 62 Each , you need ti buy a pack of 50 though . (this price does not includes Octroi , i am in delhi and have no info about Iccworld's octroi policy

also if you haven't bought A BD Burner yet ,
here is a good one , atleast in my opinion
Slim EXTERNAL Panasonic UJ-240 6X SATA Blu-Ray Slim Burner New + Warranty | eBay
Panasonic UJ-230 4X Blu-Ray External Writer Burner NEW | eBay
Panasonic UJ-230 4X Blu-Ray External Writer Burner NEW | eBay

all are 92-102 $ shipped , customs are extra , you can get away with them most probably since They all will mark them as GIFT ,
choose the drives according to the blu-ray burning speeds ,

NOTE - One of them includes free DHL shipping
