Item condition,
Does play music, however the headhones start to emit a high pitched whistle when I turn on active noise cancelling. I don't know if it is because the ear Pads are no longer on.
Rubber trim on the ear cups are degrading and falling off.
You will have to buy new pads as the original and replacements have worn out. Not used in about 2 years.

I don't like wearing Over the ear headphones

Too late. I've thrown them away. They start to tear and undo themselves in a few months Doesn't matter what treatment you give them. Branded original/ non-branded pads.
 
Update:
I wrapped a t-shirt around my head, covering my ears and tried the headphone with ANC- ON/OFF.
The whistling sound is no more there when wearing with fabric around my ear. So it probably needs its pads to work conveniently with ANC.
The ANC does seem to be working, however would firstly require pads to work, correctly. Or you could wrap a towel around your head during playback for ANC only.
