today i went to nehru place looking for a 3TB drive, price varied from 7800 to 8200 but one guy in a decent size shop offered me a WD green 3TB for 6600 only but said that the warranty is only 14 months,i asked reason for why it is so and he started giving absurd replies which didn't make much sense but then he showed me HDD warranty on WD website and it has 14 months remaining and i checked thoroughly that HDD was packed in the plastic cover they usually come in.so i bought it for 6600 but when i checked it at home it was Dead on arrival. PCB part will get so hot within 2 minutes that if i keep it connected for any longer it might burn out and system won't detect it.

now i want to know am i ripped somehow because this deal was too good to be true from the beginning...

1. WD site says it is still in warranty so i will get a new drive in return or a refurbished one?
2.what are my options?should i go back to that guy and ask for a new drive or try RMA?
3.how to RMA?procedure?
4.instead of sending them HDD by courier or opting for home pickup, can i deliver HDD to the WD center which handles RMA by myself?does it work?i will be going back to nehru place in a couple of days.
5. and BIGGEST QUESTION is WHY the warranty of this drive is only "1 year 5 months and 20 days" from Mfd date?isn't it usually 2 years from Mfd/purchase date? something looks fishy.
Please help guys :(

Just go back to the guy and pay extra and get a new one brother. This drive is clearly defective and you have been short changed in this instance.

^but cant i just RMA this drive and get a new one.any issues in that?[DOUBLEPOST=1376670016][/DOUBLEPOST]
He must have sold rmaed one that might came as new and not recertified

new as in "new",so whats the problem if drive was RMA'ed new other than it is dead now :)
i should request RMA again.right? beacuse i dont think he will take back plastic/seal opened drive unless I create a fuss there.

guys one more thing, i am creating the RMA online, now i have found a fedex centre close to my home and thinking of delivering them my packed HDD at their centre only.this will save time.
1.but now while creating the RMA what should i opt for "require a pickup at home" or "i will send the drive my self"?
2.and do i have to pay fedex guys anything or WD will take care of courier charges?
3.what printouts to take and what to do with them?[DOUBLEPOST=1376670789][/DOUBLEPOST]
You may get a new / recertified that depends on WD
Ur wish best of luck :)
i learned my lesson :(
"If it seems too good to be true, it probably is"

i hope i get a new one :)[DOUBLEPOST=1376679586][/DOUBLEPOST]one more thing.
when WD sends back a refurbished drive ,then do they send it open or packed in plastic like a new drive?
and how to figure out if the sent drive is a new one or refurbished one?

well i always go to courier office and send the wd hdd myself as it saves time and they wont charge anything from you !just keep 2-3 copy of rma generated slip (u have to attach them on pack ) and also write the rma number on top of the box
also take the printout of their shipping address which u need to send them the hdd
they will send u new hdd
i always got new hdd ! i send mine 2 tb green 4-5 times in a row for generating bad sector within 2 months but later i came to know problem was my bad psu ,after purchasing sea-sonic psu,i never rma any hdd anymore

Choose pickup from home, u will allowed to choose the date of pickup and the courier guy promptly arrive es to collect it. Pack well or they will reject parcel. Print out the rma slip with address.. Write rma number on atleast 2-3 sides if packed in a box.. In huge and clear writing..
