Hi guys,

One my friend wants to buy a branded PC. Budget around 45k .

Main features needed : decent graphics card and if possible a tv tuner card.

Maybe even a media center pc.

Does anyone know any good ones around.

Because Branded computers mean less hassles and much better service ! Though they do charge a rather large premium for just better service.

ya...even i am totally against branded pcs...the thing is i had convinced a frd of mine for a assembled gaming pc and he ended up buying a junk smps which is screwing up his system.

So now my frds have lost faith in assembled pcs and i am in no mood to convince them again :eek:hyeah:

I concur. Reputed branded PCs come with good SMPS and genuine RAM, two most basic components which one would normally overlook in an assembled PC. Add good quality genuine RAM and a branded SMPS to an assembled PC and it is not cheap anymore, i.e., price comes comparable to a branded PC.

Having said that, with 45k, you could assemble a good system with good quality RAM and SMPS, if you research a little. The joy of building one's own system after careful selection of components is a pure bliss, than going to a shop and just picking a PC off the shelf ;)

There's another thing. You can't buy the windows Media centre edition separately (legally). If your pal's more interested in a PC as a multimedia centre, branded is the way to go. And about HCL, I'd reccommend HP/Compaq over them anyday. Also, if you go for a branded PC, 9 out of 10, you will have upgrade the RAM and/or HDD. No sweat as such but it does bump up the price a bit. Personally, I never buy or reccommend branded PCs. There's ALWAYS something missing and upgradability is not always possible.

hmm some suggest me Hp branded pcs.. my friend's dad is adamant on buying a branded pc.. so cant help much.

want i want is for him to buy a cheap comp, and buy a good graphic card so he can game(thats wat he wants for) but dunnno abt upgradibility..

u've to carefully choose what the vendor ( of branded PC) has to offer. Almost all branded PCs ship out with on-board graphics and the graphics card slot (AGP/PCI-E 16x) is usually missing. There shud be some select models available with an optional PCI-Ex 16x slot. Get it double clarified from the vendor that the model of ur choice has a PCI-E 16x slot. You cud always buy a good graphics card and get going with ur gaming.

not all, but some let you customize. But then again u get that option only if it is a bulk order (say 50 PCs or more).

HP setup an online store for India, though they still wont let u configure specs. However walk into a good dealership, and they will customise as per your liking.

I would only recommend you go in for a branded PC if you want XP Media Center, else a great system is only spending one weekend at your city's hardware mkt. hunting for prices. Everyone at TE will be more than glad to help you out with a good config full of decent quality parts...
