Introduction:
Well, well, well..... I guess i have used it for enough time to write a breif review about the one of the best PMPs around in the market today, The COWON D2.
I have ordered it through Amazon (239$),Actually my brother brought it for me. I was in search of a nice Mp3 player which would generate great bass. Very confused with which one i had to go with. Read lot of reviews, every player looked good but has its own Cons. Finally short listed Two competitors.

2.IRIVER Clix2
But the clix has no Expendable memory and low battery back up compared to D2.So i went with D2.

Design & Construction:
As the pictures says the Design is quiet simple. Some times looks like a Small TV.
On the top it has the on/OFF/Lock which can be operated by a single button and Volume control+,- and Menu button.In fact you can also make them user defined with some settings. I made them Menu button-Pause/Play when on Lock.
On the right side are the Earphone socket, USB socket,reset button and wall charger socket
On the Bottom we have the SD card slot.
On the Left side it have a simple design which lets the stylus to be used as a stand.
The Build quality is strong, in fact it recovered well from two droppings on my work place.
It don't have a sexy look as Clix 2 but definitely not bad. In size it actually is smaller than my Motorazor.
User Interface:
I have read in many reviews that D2 is not as good as Apple in UI. But i can say that a person with minimum Computer operating knowledge can use it very well. The Touch screen is very sensitive and very good.The menu in D2 goes like this.
with Firmware 2.4 the menu look like -- Music, Video,Photos, Text, Radio,Voice,utilities and Settings.
with Firmware 3.4 the menu look like -- Music, Video,Photos, Text,Dictionary, Radio,Voice,utilities and Settings.
With 3.4 u can actually modify the Skins and themes and With 2.4 only themes can be changed.
User background image can be used with every firmware.Firmware upgration and degration is quiet easy and simple.
Performance
Audio:
When it comes to Audio performance, D2 is a champ. You can work out with Equalizer, BBE, Mach3bass, Stereo,3D sound and all to best suit your music type.I use creative Ep-630 with this player currently and the earphones are OK.After a certain level of volume the Highs will take over the lows with EP-630 , so looking to upgrade this. The Default buds are not bad, when i pump up the full volume, my co-employees can easily listen to the songs.Thanks to the 74mw of sound it produces. I have listened to Iriver T60 which my sis is using now,Ipod shuffle, creative Stone plus and some others. But i can say that the D2's quality is way ahead of them.
Video
I went with D2 only for the Audio quality but when it arrived, i really loved the Video quality of it. very clear and bright.
I have watched about 30 movies in it.I use Jetaudio for the video conversion and its quiet simple.
Photos
Photos are crisp and clear.But if it is a big file, it takes about 2 to 3 seconds to load. You can have a Zoom in and Zoom out option. Slide show option is quiet good.
Radio
I can not talk much about it as i have used this option only once just to test it.
Voice recording
This is a very good. I recorded some of my training sessions and they are very clear.
SD
Right now i am using Transcend 8Gb card.No read/Write issues but its a bit slow. when i play a movie on player memory it immediately starts but if i play it from SD it takes 2 to 4 seconds.
Battery
The battery is Excellent. I am actually getting about 40 hrs with variable usage of Movies,photos etc.
Conclusion:
Cowon D2 is a Excellent performer in every aspect. Even if i were given a chance for the second one, i will go for D2.I am a completely satisfied user of it. Its not a budget player but this worth every penny of it.
