Broadband internet, which one?

I dont think airtel is available in a lot of areas in Mumbai, although MTNL back end support sucks you will hardly need it , coz the connection is up most of the time (you can say best uptime compared to other ISPs) and speeds are also very decent (better than airtel)

Does anybody how long does it take to set up an MTNL internet connection? Week? 2 weeks? Month? If I already have an MTNL phone line, then it NOT should take much time depending on my position in the queue? I hope it doesn't take a month or so. Does anyone know?

Support:

Airtel: 4444-4141

Sify: 2617-7460

Sify: 2617-7460

...shifted from SIFY to Triband a few months back, It took around 4-5 days for my triband connection to be up and running, I already had a mtnl phone connection...so that helped. Sify was faster (32kbps) compared to MTNL (28kbps) but MTNL is a lot more reliable from my experience so far :)

^That is really helpful. Thanks!

Does anyone know if Airtel is reliable as MTNL (speed of ~25kBps is sufficient)? Is Airtel's support number 4444-4141 correct?

From my experience (in Delhi) with Airtel, I'd say that they're the best I could've possibly hoped for!!

Using since: Dec'05
Plan: 999 Unlimited (256Kbps unlimited connection - Doubles at Night)
Registration & Installation charges: Zero :hap2:
ADSL Modem Charges: Rs. 500 (Refundable)

Pros:
~Zero Downtime (barring 1 time in Feb'06)
~Excellent Customer Support - Any query/complaint will be fixed within 4 working hours..If not, Rs. 100 off on your bill..
~D/L speeds of around 26-28 during daytime & 50+ @ nights :bleh:
~Free Telephone line with free calls to 1 local no.

Cons:
None

Cheers!!

airel sounds pretty good..ne idea if they have started in bandra(west) ??

i was thinkin of BSNL as well.

Pixel do you know airtel support number? The one that I know (4444-4141) doesn't work. Is there something to be dialed before that?

Airtel and BSNL/MTNL are almost same in all aspects.

1.Go for Mtnl if u have time to spare for following up bsnl guys when ur net goes down.
2.U can manage a lot of tweaking / maintaining net connections and hardwares. Dont expect any help from customercare.

For airtel the plus point is their customer care ofcourse. Plus u remain connected to net when ur phone gets down or vice versa while in mtnl u may lose both together.

unfortunately, MTNL is pure crap, atleast was around a year or so back.

Looks like I dont have much options. Others that are better than MTNL are not available in the area (Thane E). I always had this problem.

I remember three years back when Satyam had a good internet connection and the guy said that he would need atleast 10 people initially to put a line till my place. I just had 2 people.

Anyways, I'm getting mixed reviews with MTNL. Seems like they are okay till customer/tech support gets involved. :D

Hey hippy, get mtnl i know cc sucks but u won't need them mostly, havn't got a single downtime so far. Though the speeds of Sify are better i.e 32kbps vs 28 for mtnl, its compensated because sify connection is generally switched off even at the slightest signs of lightning, even when there is a power failure u r net is down, no such probs with mtnl...though depends on your local net provider as well.

Ahh! That's the reason why some guys would go for UPS. Those frequent power outages. But I think they don't happen now, right?
