I have activated GPRS on my vodafone number but for some reason i cannot browse the internet. I tried www, WWW, portalnmms as the APN but no luck.

Has anyone got GPRS working with Vodafone if yes, they could pleast post the APN setting

Thanks.

What plan have you activated? For full internet functionality on your phone, you need to activate Vodafone Mobile Connect. There are 3 plans available: 199, 499 and 699 a month.

After you've activated either one of these plans, you should get a blue 'E' symbol next to your service provider label on the upper left corner of the screen.

After this, all you have to do is go to Settings>General>Network>EDGE and set APN to www. If it still doesn't work, then there's a problem on Vodafone's side and not yours.

no it wont work with the pay per use plan ...its 10p per 10kb and it doesnt work with the new phones having edge
i am using a hp ipaq 512 and this same plan doesnt work for me..i called them up to ask they said il have to go for the other plans which are for Rs.199 and so on

probably don't know the exact rates...but i am on this scheme. Will GPRS work on my Iphone under this scheme ?

you are talking about GPRS which has no monthly rental only surfing charges,

You will have to activate EDGE for that there are three plans as tracerbullet mentioned.

So talk with Vodafone customer care and activate 199 plan.

NO dude. You neednot pay any rental for browsing ON PHONE!Just 10p/10KB.

Use that SIM in any other mobile and check whether the problem is with VOdafone or your iPhone

dude that gprs works only with phones without edge...try using that same simcard in some other phones with edge and u will know they wont work..trust me ive done this
u need to activate the advanced gprs thingy as everyone is saying here.
there are 3 plans in vodafone dont know the exact rates but i think the plans in airtel are better

Basic GPRS will only let you open wap sites. Try it out on your iPhone. Sites like wap.yahoo.com etc. ought to open if your apn is set to portalnmss. But if you want full internet functionality then you need to activate the advanced GPRS service. I don't know about prepaid but postpaid requires that you activate the Vodafone Mobile Connect plan.

Can you plz post the latest settings,i had called up Vodafone helpline when i changed my N80 to Iphone to inquire why the basic GPRS is not working on my Iphone while it was working fine on my N80 so the response i got was that basic GPRS doesn't work with Iphone you need to activate the advanced plan:huh:

No, wap sites are also not opening on the iphone probably nees to activate the advanced plan....I have a MTNL sim with pay per use as the GPRS plan and the GPRS works perfectly on that my Iphone

The Basic GPRS will NOT work on the IPhone.

Since we are on the topic, I just wanted to know whether Vodafone's Basic GPRS will work on the HTC Touch in particular...... and on any Windows Mobile based phone in general.

Any inputs on this would be appreciated.

Guy's, you are mixing up the facts here. Vodafone offers 2 types of GPRS connectivity. (Edge is same as GPRS only faster).

Vodafone live (Planethutch)
Vodafone access (Hutch access).

Both have similar types of settings, except for a few changes. Vodafone live needs proxies to be enabled etc.

Vodafone live Apn: portalnmms
Vodafone access Apn: www

Since I have not come across settings that allow me to alter the proxy settings in the Iphone, I dont think the basic pan (Vodafone Live) plan will work in the iphone (atleast till Vodafone launches the Iphone here atleast).

Since the Vodafone access does not need proxies, it would work in the iphone, but this plan does not come without a monthly rental currently.

Both these settings work on windows mobile phones. I have used vodafone live settings on htc 3300/htc touch, k-jam and also imate SP-5
