Guys, I think you've gotten it wrong.

1) EVDO is 3G for CDMA Networks. BSNL GSM 3G is based on HSPA.

2) 3G is designed to allow simultaneous Voice and Data connections unlike slot based 2.5 (GPRS) and 2.75 (EDGE) technologies.

It should be working but it's not. CC confirmed that there is problem on their end and that it should be rectified soon.
well im not sure about that but bsnl 3g works on umts in most places except delhi where they use hsdpa

it has to do with the cost sine upgrading all the 3g towers is costly and using umts also provide future upgradability to 4g

hence there was soft launch of evdo since last 2008 and they are also installing more cdma BTS.

So you pay 59 bucks buy the sim then after activation you do a 120 easy recharge thats it.whats the download limit. And how much per mb after that

My 3G SIM is activated but iam not able to browse the net :(

I tried with the default(BSNL-SOUTH) wap settings and even the normal setting but none of them worked.

I keep getting "Packet data connection not allowed" or something like that..

But iam able to make and receive calls.

BTW, iam using Nokia 5800...

So can anyone please share the manual settings here..

Waiting for DataCards and related plans.

I am still confused as to whats the actual download cap on various offers.

Thanks man it worked :)
But another problem, iam able to browse Net on my PC and even other applications on my mobile are able to access net using 3G EXCEPT the deault Nokia 5800 web browser :(
When i try to open any website, it just stays at "0kb" and doesn't load anything beyond that. :S

Ok looks like there are a few questions.

1) IP Address
I really doubt it would be a Static IP address. That would be a huge drain on their resources.

2) What plan to get?
Guys just do as I have mentioned earlier (for prepaid only). There are only 2 plans available for Prepaid as you can see on the 3G tariff page. One of them (the better plan AKA Promotional Plan) is for new customers. I am not sure about the voucher based plans though.

3) Data Limit
According to the site it says 25MB is free with the first 120 easy recharge. Subsequently I got a Rs. 120 top up and I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but now my total free usage is 25GB! yes you read it right... 25 GIGABYTES. I have no idea how that happened and there doesn't seem to be any documentation regarding that anywhere, but it still happened.

WOW!!!! u ppl got 25GB of free data transfer?????
here with MTNL no such things happen though speed is gr (2mbps).
aslo when got BSNL 3G (in west bengal) last year, got only 250MB free transfer upon activation.:(

I need a help, any one please?

Im postpaid subscriber(P-525) and i tried migrating to 3G by sending M3G25 to 53733 and after that one more confirmation message. This i've done 2 days back, after that internet is not working even normal GPRS which used to work earlier(as per my plan i've 100MB free). As usualy BSNL CC is useless :(

^^Ask to speak to one of the team leaders or ask them to transfer you to one of the backend tech guys. They won't do it right away but you need to keep persisting.

They should be able to address all your issues.

I'm as surprised as anyone, but I must say I'm not entirely happy with the speeds. They tend to fluctuate... A LOT!

The first day I got incredible speeds but ever since then it's kind of On & Off. Earlier, I didn't need to pause Youtube videos to buffer up a bit before playback. It was smooth like a baby's bottom. Now, not so much. Stutters quite a bit. What do you say Shashank?

^^Even i feel the same.

1st time i did speed test, i got ~1.5mbps and the 2nd time(next day), i got ~300kbps(~0.3mbps) and after few hrs, got ~0.5mbps !

All from speedtest.net

One advice to the private operators who will start 3G services, see that atleast 85% of your BTS(Cell towers) transmit 3G signals in Metros and other densely populated cities.

Coz, 3G services are run on 2.1Ghz spectrum by BSNL,MTNL and most of the operators across the globe.

What this means is that, in simple words, 2.1Ghz offers better quality of communication but sacrifices the coverage area i.e. they need more towers to cover a region.

To test the BSNL 3G, i selected the Network mode to "UMTS" only so that the handset will not switch to 2G.

And when i moved across bangalore, i felt the "3G" Network to be VERY VERY poor.

Its like, you make a call and start traveling, the call will be disconnected in couple of minutes as the 3G signals will drop between different areas!

This makes using "3G/UMTS Only" Very painful specially while traveling.

But then i guess we have to be happy with whatever BSNL gives us until Private Operators enter 3G game...

^^Exactly!
Even i got 25GB!!

Same here, I think when they had to set up the system, they were supposed to enter the values in kilobytes, but they thought that it was in bytes. That's why we got an allowance of 25 GB.:hap2:
