Bsnl ADSL disconnects too frequently

I started having this problem from mid week of August. The phone line had died, but internet was still working at slow speeds. After the linesman repaired it, the modem takes too long to connect to the net - like 2-3 minutes. Sometimes i dont get any connection even after 5 minutes, since the dsl link is too unstable. I complained to the exchange and they did something i think. But there has been no change in the situation. It still takes around 3-4 minutes too connect. And after 4-5 minutes it disconnects abruptly and the speeds fall drastically.
Say if first connection was around 1.5Mbps, the next would be around 800Kbps. The third time it would fall down to 512Kbps or even less.

If i switch off the modem, and let it connect after 5 minutes, it connects at 2Mbps. The line snr is around >20 for first connection, but after a few minutes browsing it falls down to below 5 always within minutes.

I thought this was because of some static noise in line. After changing the adsl filter with a new one, there is no noise, but the problem is still there. I tried explaining to the help desk, but those people are technically backward and keep asking me what error i'm getting.

I thought it might be modem might have gone bad, but this happens with another adsl modem too. In that, it connects at even less speed and takes same 3-4 minutes to connect.

Is this because of line or because of unstable dsl link from exchange? The dsl light keeps blinking repeatedly. :@
Also forgot to mention that, the modulation is not Fast Path but Interleaved.

ask the exchange to change your line(through application) by dirctly visiting the SDO of your exchange. If the problem persists, it means the problem is from your port at the exchange.

I hope there are no parallel lines before the modem, the line should go first into the modem and from there you can go an splitting into multiple lines for telephone only.

i had similar trouble with my MTNL line.

Also have you set the DNS server details in the IPv4 settings? the preferred and alternate DNS server? having this setting helps resolve the issue you are facing.

I had the same issue. I believe 2 things solved the problem for me. There were two joins in the line between the modem and local exchange box. I told the lineman to remove those two joins. The lineman also changed my port i.e. he connected my line to some other free port in the local exchange box.

There are many breaks in line then. From junction box in opposite building, there's a break in middle of line coming to my house (some truck reversing broke it and the linesman joined it with a knot in middle cause he did not have extra line). That line goes directly to home internal wiring. Internal line goes to ups telephone port (for safety against lightning strike or whatever). From ups port to splitter. Then it comes to modem. This connection state has been unchanged from years, and i've always got 2mbps speeds and only recently i'm getting this line problem.

Thankfully yesterday, i had a chat with someone knowledgeable in bsnl customer care, and they told me to get the line replaced. Will have to visit the local telephone exchange to get this sorted out.

problem solved. most of the telephone contacts were a bit oxidised (due to rains and humidity) and had to be cleaned with a metal brush. i had cleaned them with spirit but it needs to be cleaned with a metal brush to remove the oxidisation on the contacts. net connects in seconds now on full speed.

the problem is not solved. now it happens only at night after 11pm. is it because bsnl might have given too many internet connections on one line? like many many lines above their usual contention ratio?
now in the mornings, it connects at 2048Kbps, but after 11 pm it does not connect above 512Kbps or even 256Kbps. too many downloaders in my area i think. :@

unless and otherwise your plan is associated with these speeds (morning 2Mb/s and after 11 pm 512 Kb/s) it is impossible. Previously BSNL used to have plans similar to this. There will be download limit in the day time and in the night the download limit is unlimited.. For me it seems like that...
