Re: BSNL BB 8Mbps UL @ Rs. 2799 :)

again, useless. 50gigs at 8mb lmao. i'm sure that's 2 way traffic too.

also, this isn't Unlimited. you have to pay once you hit your quota.

Re: BSNL BB 8Mbps UL @ Rs. 2799 :)

yeah thats two way traffic

50GB would be consumed in one day if you download 24X7.They should have provided atleast 150GB limit.

MODS:Change the title its not an unlimited connection

Re: BSNL BB 8Mbps UL @ Rs. 2799 :)

OP doesn't understand the meaning of unlimited.

At first i thought he must be talking about FUP, 4Mbps after 50GB is still wonderful. Sadly that isn't the case. This limited connection is completely useless, as once you cross 50GB (after 1-2 days), you are going to be slammed with a heavy bill in just the next day (30GB usage~ Rs.3000 @ 10paise/MB).

Re: BSNL BB 8Mbps UL @ Rs. 2799 :)

Read this news in today's TOI. Rather useless offer. 50GB Cap...Simply ridiculous.

Re: BSNL BB 8Mbps UL @ Rs. 2799 :)

@OP,

These are not UL plans. All of them have proper data caps.

Re: BSNL BB 8Mbps UL @ Rs. 2799 :)

Same old sad story of our Indian Broadband. Instead of such crappy plans for such speed they should think of true UL plans with at-least 1-2Mbps speeds..

But I know its asking for too much & I will not see any such plan for another 5-10 years... :(

Re: BSNL BB 8Mbps UL @ Rs. 2799 :)

Totally agree with hailstone.

They should provide us with UL connections 1mbps or 2 mbps for 1000 - 1500 max with NO FUP.That would be a revolution for us.

Re: BSNL BB 8Mbps UL @ Rs. 2799 :)

These broadband plans are more of a money making scheme by isps to lure unsuspecting customers with the promise of speed and then charge him through his nose for exceeding the cap

i'm better off with my 256kbps unlimited plan

Totally agree.

Re: BSNL BB 8Mbps UL @ Rs. 2799 :)

There is no cheating going on,at least in this case.

I've been on a 1Mbps plan for quite some time now and recently mtnl upgraded my plan speeds to 1.34Mbps however for some reason I'm getting 2Mbps
Anyways,my point is ,having been on such a plan for so long my average download per month has been in the range of 20-25Gb on the low side and 40-50 Gb on a good month(game release, good 1080p movie release etc).
50Gb is actually more than enough for most people and if bsnl does not mentioned this cap and keeps it hidden most people including those "power users" would never know.

Whats more important to me is higher speeds for instant gratification rather than lower speeds with relatively larger quota.I did some "research" the other day and wanted to know what would be the most ideal download speed.I found that even in the worst case scenario,a 1080p rip of a 90 minute movie would be in the 6-8Gb range,8Gb max.Based on some simple calculations one could view streaming 1080p rips with a 16Mbps connection and this is for the worst case scenario. The requirements drop if it were a 720p rip, drops even further if it were a DvdRip.

Me thinks a 16Mbps connection with 60Gb limit and some mechanism whereby after 55Gb,speed immediately drops to 2Mbps and after 59Gb to 256kbps for Rs1.5k would be an ideal connection.

Re: BSNL BB 8Mbps UL @ Rs. 2799 :)

@arun.. I had read sometime back in some article which stated .. If the ISP's allow full speed unlimited access say at 4 or 8 mbps then whats going to happen is people are going to download their heart out in the beginning for say few months max 2 or 3 and then their usage will gradually drop as there isnt that much material out there which demands a continous 24/7 download approach for years on end.So what these ISP's should do is open up their pipes for us.Remember its only the video content which requires lotsa bandwidth and not other stuff. And each one of us has particular tastes in movies. Some like desi material other non desi , also one has to consider the amount of space one has on hardrives.Lets say by todays standards 500GB is the normal. So to fill up 500GB with movies it will take some days. But one also has to watch those movies.Again one has to have that much free time at hand to watch all those movies which generally no one does.So whats gonna happen is once a person downloads 500GB of data its going to take him time to delete all that material and start downloading again.I think an ideal limit if they do want to apply should be in the range of 250-500GB.80% users out there will take up say 50GB max.But as they get accustomed to better HD stuff their requirement is gonna rise up.

So a 250GB-500GB limit on any speed line should be sufficient. It takes care of even those heavy downloaders.

just my 2 cents

Fck you BSNL.....:@
Its better to get a 1mbps unlimited broadband(no FUP) @Rs.1500/-.....
There are lot of option ever I heard Reliance also providing at some places.

not for those who are willing to pay close to 3k for an 8mbps connection. 50GB is NOTHING. remember, it's two way traffic. for every 5gig 720p rip you download, you usually upload the same amount too as private trackers are quite straight about ratios.

Note that I am on this plan and have gotten bored of downloading rips.. I do download (http and torrent) LOTS of free software (linux OS ISOs and updates, source code etc) and still only barely manage to reach 30 gb overall.. that leaves about room to download 1 or 2 full HD media samples ;-)

For 400-500 bucks more they can get an RS account/seedbox and don't need to worry about losing bandwidth. What I'd be more worried about with no FUP is disk space. With an 8Mbps connection and at just about 10 hours of download daily you end up downloading 1Tb per Month costing you 4-4.5k a month just for storage!
Some people say they'll only stream stuff or watch files immediately and then delete them, well I don't see this happening practically.

The only way to put an end to this is to source usage statistics of people from Sweden,Japan,South Korea etc. and see how much they actually use on a monthly basis.
