If you purchase the modem for Rs3500, you need to pay only Rs650/mo (Plan charges). If you are using the modem on rent, then the charges are Rs650 (Plan charges) + Rs200 (Rent) = Rs850.
EVDO is crappy in Bangalore - very poor speeds and pathetic response from the exchange for complaints. Frequent disconnections and often switches to 1X mode. Pathetic speeds (~100kbps) even when there is good signal. As usual the monkeys at the exchange have no idea of whats happening. Fiddle around with the settings in the device and claim that it will work fine after 3 days.
Totally different story in Chennai. I was using it on roaming and the experience was nothing short of awesome! Very good speeds and reliable, even when I didnt have even half as good signal strength as in Bangalore.
