My 4.5 years old ZTE AC8700(Rev 0) is still working fine and giving me around 180-200+ KBps most of the time.

Since BSNL has upgraded their BTS to now REV A(3.1 Mbps). i am in a dilemma over whether to get new data card or not ? the Sierra one.

and not to forget that REV A has lower latency than REV 0. so in result you get speedier browsing.

As you said Sierra Wireless 595U is not available , try searching ebay that the best bet .

If you are getting 180-200 in a data card which has very poor signal then i expect in Sierra you will always get 250+

But do you want to spend 1k for a speed bump of 50 KBps . But Sierra Wireless does pull signal when none are available and in night i can expect speed bumps to 300 KBps at your place . When ZTE AC 8700 show no signal my sierra shows 2 signal bar with a download speed of 40KBps

Now you decide ,if i find a good deal of the sierra will email/pm you

Thanx #kuduku. Signals are not issue. i am getting 4 bar in ZTE. I am sure Sierra will pull 1 more signal and make the connection even robust. I feel 50 KBps for 1K is worth it. and moreover i am more interested in Rev A network connection latency. bcoz browsing on REV 0 is slower.

These changes included the introduction of several new forward link data rates that increase the maximum burst rate from 2.45 Mbit/s to 3.1 Mbit/s. Also included were protocols that would decrease connection establishment time (called enhanced access channel MAC), the ability for more than one mobile to share the same timeslot (multi-user packets) and the introduction of QoS flags. All of these were put in place to allow for low latency, low bit rate communications such as VoIP.[

My prithvi UE100 died today :( and i need to buy a new data card.

Any suggestions?

New data card should be capable of handling poor signals (i used to get 2-3 bars signal in UE100).

ZTE ac 2766 excellent card with external antenna slot . You can check reviews to know about low signal issue . I use external antenna all the time so cannot comment .

Yes MTS unlocked Ac 2766 , I am using a patch antenna . Try ebay India for Patch antenna or BSNL itself . Try ebay US for pigtail of same

I m ordering a couple of Sierra 598u from US. Is there any better options there? The modem is quite old now and there are modems with wifi as well but doubtful if it will work with BSNL.? I really wanted one with wifi.

What is the price of AC 2766?
I found a used one at ebay selling for Rs.1.6k and another one (probably new) at shopclues selling @ 1550/-

Which one's better? Micromax mmx310c or zte ac2766?

Hi guys,

I see this is the only active thread for bsnl evdo on whole internet. So I was wondering if anyone can help me sort some things out?

I got a new connection (RUIM) yesterday and I want to buy a modem for it. I had a zte ac2746 locked to mts that I killed while unlocking yesterday.

Now distance between my home & evdo tower is 600 meters and congestion is nil in my area. But during demo I got 150-160 kBps at the exchange with zte ac8700 modem, and at my home there were heavy fluctuations and I was not satisfied (but still bought it :().

So can anyone advice a modem that could sustain these fluctuations. I have my eyes on Sierra Wireless 598U (too costly) & zte ac2766. How good is zte ac2766 compared to sw 598u?

My requirement is at least 1 mbps speed constantly.

Hey, from where are you getting it & for how much? Willing you be willing to sell one of them?

Get ZTE AC2766 excellent modem get it . I am using it after using Sierra 595U so i know what I am saying .
If your distance and load congestion is correct you will get 300KBps minimum all the time .
AC8700 is 2.8 Mbps modem
ZTE AC 2766 is the way to go . Get it from a friend and test it to see correct speeds before you buy

Hi, Kuduku

I read that you have been u̶s̶i̶n̶g̶ exploiting evdo for 8 years :woot:. So without any doubt I am gonna buy ac2766 if you say it. But I live on ground floor and I want good signals. I read that Sierra 598U has some magical wand which gets 100kBps download speed when Zte even fails to get signals. Is it any true?

Also if I don't get good connectivity, can I amplify it in some way with Zte, maybe an antenna?

PS: Getting from a friend is a no go as my area is covered massively by Airtel broadband and none of my friends or relatives have even heard of evdo. They all think I've gone mad because I discontinued my Airtel connection of 11 years.

Ok, I used an old Nokia 2505 to check signals. It has 2 bars and in some areas I get 3 bars but thats it. Does that indicate something?

You did good thing sagar. ditched the FUPED up Airtel. ;)
Go with ZTE AC2766 eyes closed as mentioned by @kuduku
You can get the antenna for ZTE AC2766 later.
always remember. there is no magic dongle to get best speed. it always depends on distance, congestion, surrounding obstacles etc.

Haha, I wish I could manipulate all of my district to ditch Airtel, to break Airtel's monopoly & so that Airtel seriously thinks about removing FUP or at least give a good 2mps plan under 1500rs.

Now I am certainly going for this modem tomorrow (after getting few answers from seller).

Will getting a used one be safe?

I liked two deals: Used & New

EDIT:
Someone please tell me when will my posts stop going through a moderator? This is sickening.

^ are you getting mmx310c...? am looking for one..
Yes. Bought a used one from E for temporary use

Will buy ac2766 only after i've managed to find an external antenna. I'd appreciate if any1 could provide a link to buy an external antenna compatible with ac2766

2/3 bars are not when you are 600M away from tower . Check your tower distance or use other data card to check actual signal strength

External antenna is separate and pigtail is different . Any patch antenna will do which works for all data cards . Pigtails are different for each data card companies . Do a google for patch antenna on ebay india and ebay US for pigtail . Patch antenna is also given free of cost by BSNL for weal CDMA areas for FWT . But they do give it if you have contacts or request BSNL
