Bsnl wifi-router doesnt stand, normal does-Need help

Hey guys, When i first got my Connection, i had payed for a type2(Wifi router wid adsl).

when they came to install it, the dsl link on the router would not blink or if it did, wouldnt be stable..
That meant no net connection:( .Once, on one of the routers they tried it did stand, but for a minute or so..But went off again.:@
So in they end they brought a type1 modem, simple adsl one with out wifi, and it started working,

They said there might be a problem in the line, Till many days the connection was very erratic..kept disconnecting the dsl link..

But after some days the type1 was stable..
Yesterday i asked them to come and try again..Wat can i do to ensure that it stands this time, are there any setting inside the router that i need to change??
Since this present router(type1) is working , wat part of the config should i copy to the new modem...??

You should have taken the hint from previous so many posts. Dump the wifi from the BSNL, it aint good, ask them plain modem. Buy a Buffalo 125 and you would be a happy soul.

Please dig more into techenclave.com

Nevermind guys, the new one worked..

But there was a problem, When i changed the splitter to the new one, the link was unstable again..so kept the old one..now everything fine..

Enjoying Wifi..

Hey LT, DOnt worry i digg enough into Techenclave, read each and everynew post & topic that's there every day..

AS for the recommendations, i didnt need a router for gaming, or for my neighbour's use..

Wanted a simple one and got it..works perfect for my limited usage....covers my whole flat..

Dude,

Did u check the spec before getting it? It support only WEP its matter of time before somebody gets into your network. I would suggest switching on MAC filter thats the only way you can avoid folks from attaching to your net.

PS: There is a reason why that 125 is suggested, of course, you have your wisdom.

if the dsl light doesnt blink there might be issues with the wiring. change the wiring to your house, and if that doesnt help, ask them to try other copper pairs in the phone cable. I've had this issue. (and still am :S, but i kinda expect it since i live in a rural area)

Yeah i do
I had paid for it in april 2007, but got it now, because of the above mentioned problem..:@
I know why u suggested buffalo, cause of Buffalo's AirStation One-Touch Secure System and the ability to change the firmware to tomato or wrt..but here u go..

Actually other reasons y i went for this is,
a) Cost-buffalo would cost more and i'd ahv to buy adsl router too..
b) my CA exams in nov :( dont want to involve my self in unneeded things like flashing firmware and all yar..already a lot of distractions...

Man the thing is soo unstable that evn a different spitter made it go down.. Really..i got the whole thing done privately with my(dad's:P ) own money..
Yeah tried the phone cable too..they say there is problem with main cable itself...

post your ADSL link statistics from your modem

it should look something like this

Downstream Upstream

SNR Margin (dB): 24.8 22.3

Attenuation (dB): 38.0 14.8

Output Power (dBm): 12.6 -33.0

Attainable Rate (Kbps): 6152 45500

Rate (Kbps): 2044 510

Now here is a silly question,

The i plug my DSL modem/router in a Spike which goes into the main wall socket.

Now the adapter connection with spike is loose, it keeps shaking every now & then. just with a sense of touch, something like touchscreen

I have changed my spike twice still no avail.

any trick to fix the modem's adapter in place?

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (dB): 8.1 18.8
Attenuation (dB): 34.0 18.3
Output Power (dBm): 12.3 19.6
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 10976 1340
Rate (Kbps): 10553 861
Seem different than urs:-(

yikes. your downstream SNR is horrible. no wonder . 8.1 dB means that your ADSL signal is just 2.5 times stronger than the noise. It should be at least 20 dB = 10 times stronger signal. I have ~30dB

dude , the physical ADSL signal is very weak, its like having a faint and noisy radio signal. So naturally it wont be able to maintain a connection. It has no relation to your plan. ask BSNL to change the physical telephone line.

Dont understand much of the signal jargon cause not in that feild..thus asked..

They say they cant change the line...said they hav orders to make do in watever present lines they hav or give the customer wireless phones..:@
The situation here is that ,either a modem gets the link or doesnt..this new one has no problem in the link part and is working perfectly...So if its stable, wil it be able to give full speeds in case i change the plan??even if the noise and weak signal continue?

If your current modem can give good speeds , then it wont be very hard, but i still say that your current signal strength sucks , and thats the reason why your other modem didnt get a stable connection, and bsnl needs to correct it.

basically, your line is very noisy, and your modem has a hard time communicating with all this noise. the modem you have now can do it better i guess, but its bsnl's fault that the noise is there in teh first place. it shouldnt...

i meant to hold it in place, can you post a pic of this 'spike'

if its a plug like thingy, insert a long and thick strip of paper into the hole to increase the grip
