Forum Feedback Bug: Country field can't be left blank

I tried setting a custom title, but was told to select a country in country of origin which I don't want to do.
Can it made such that the country field can be left blank?
 
Maybe not blank, but its set to private if you want to protect that information.

Any particular reason you want to do that?

We have enabled it for analytic purpose.

Shouldn't this kind of analytic data be obtained AFTER seeking the users permission?

Users are basically being forced to submit the required data. A voluntary submission mechanism would have been a better choice.

Not exactly.

We are asking you general information. There are only three fields that we are asking. Gender, Country and education. The latter is also asked in a general grouping. Most, if not all sites will ask that information. its just that we didn't ask from the start.

However i have made those fields private so that no one can see those apart from you.

Maybe ppl are afraid that u gonna enable/unhide that info one very fine day w/o any notification .. like recent act

Y not ask that info wen u really goin to make visible..?

or is that info only for the madmins ??

Country is not a private hidden information by any stretch of imagination. As far as Education goes, we are asking nothing more than a general student/graduate/post graduate grouping question. I don't think that personally identifies anyone. And only admins can see the info.

For Gods sake stop getting so dramatic and making it into a big mega serial :P Stop trying to draw parallels to the rep counter reset just because you are upset about that. Both are completely unrelated.
Even had they informed you about the rep reset a month ago what difference would it have made ? :S
 
C'on guys..........this data doesn't reveal anyone's identity.......and I guess it will assist TE in targeting advertisers in a much better fashion. C'on this community has given us so much at no cost....this is the least we can do....

how ignorant a mod can be eh ?
try reading my responses in that thread and u ll know whose side i am on

Just makes my notion that mods are generally swaying even at the their sober best a bit more stronger ;)
