This gets you pretty close before tax and after rebates, you are looking at about 10.00 in tax + a little more for shipping, and this is better than ur average pc for about a grand, and has room to grow later.

I know the cents are off a little as I added pretty quick ;)

what abt GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX or

GIGABYTE GA-G33M-DS2R LGA 775 Intel G33 Micro ATX

both of them are around $135.

Also wont e6320 and e6550 be a better and cheap option

cause anyways all of them will reach arnd 3 ghz easily.

There are few core components you really dont want to screw with if you want a good build.

That ocz is POS. ( no offense to ocz but thats the truth )

Get yourself Gskill DDR2 800. They cost around $129 on egg.

2nd is Processor. You really dont wanna go with 6550 if you plan to go over 3Ghz. Its not the case of bad overclocking cpu but its low multipliers of these G0 stepping C2Ds which mean you have to go way above 400Mhz FSB. That puts lot of stress on the chipset.

Try to get 6750. If it does not fit in your budget then only opt for 6550.

3rd is motherboard.

Get yourself tried and tested abit IP35 pro. There is no real good reason to go for any other board. Its proven good clocker.

Rest of the stuff I am sure you can manage :)

No offense taken, a matter of opinion though ;) my ocz is great, and overclocks nicely too. Oh yeah.... it also has a lifetime warranty too ;)

from ocz website

**OCZ EVP (Extended Voltage Protection) is a feature that allows performance enthusiasts to use a VDIMM of 2.2V ± 5% without invalidating their OCZ Lifetime Warranty.

Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor $211.99

PSU - OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply 100 - 240 V $139.99

You forgot the HDD so,

HDD - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive $74.99

And you have a winner there :hap2:

Go with Abit mobo man thats really nice a lota people have it (or atleast getting it),If u want to overclock with Stock Cooling u better have this one.

and as far as the processor is concerned like funky said go for the 6750 not a huge difference in the price but if u wanna have a better overclocker go for that. still better if u can muster up a few bucks more get a Q6600 u wont have to upgrade for a long time.

Ram can make all the difference in a System go for "Patriot" or G.Skill or Crucial, my personal order would be Patrot>>G.Skill>Crucial>OCZ most of the guys would agree to this.

this is my idea of a good PC...

Processor- Intel Core 2 Duo E6750-$211.99

Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail

RAM- Patriot eXtreme Performance 2GB-$113.99

Newegg.com - Patriot eXtreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

Monitor- ViewSonic Optiquest Series Q20WB Black 20"-$199.99

Newegg.com - ViewSonic Optiquest Series Q20WB Black 20" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 - Retail

Cabinet- NZXT Apollo Black SECC Steel Chassis-$69.99

Newegg.com - NZXT Apollo Black SECC Steel Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

MOBO- ABIT IP35 Pro-$184.99

Newegg.com - ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

PSU- OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI-$109.99

Newegg.com - OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI ATX12V 600W Power Supply 100 - 240 V CB/CE/CSA/UL/FCC - Retail

the total comes around $890 give or take $35 which gives u $75 in ur hands. and get a

Graphic Card- XFX PVT80GGHF4 GeForce 8800GTS 320MB-$279.99

Newegg.com - XFX PVT80GGHF4 GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported HDCP Video Card - Retail

so the Grand Total of the System is $1170.:hap2:

for a 30 u can get a mouse and keyboard. so it $1200. a $100 more but its worth it man.(after rebate and stuff u can get a $100 less)

Phew:) that took some searching, but given the money thats EXACTLY what i would go for man. Good luck.

I would conceptually re-think one thing here overall. No matter what you decide, put a large portion of your cash into your motherboard. Everything else can be upgraded later, but if the motherboard is older or outdated... then you will be always stuck with having to purchase upgrades using older technology, and you will have to upgrade the system again sooner than later. It is the key component of your system, and will determine everything you build from here on out, and will also determine the length of time this system will last you.
I don't think a lot of people are realizing that you are based here in the USA (like me) This opens up your choices considerably more, there are many components you can buy easily that are not readily available in India, or cost too much to ship. I personally have always been an Asus fan until my recent Asus purchase of a Striker Extreme... the motherboard was buggy and tech support sucked. I recently purchased my first EVGA board, and cannot express what a great board it is... this is why I suggested the light version of the board I have. It is really a great overclocker, and has a great set of features... and is hard to get in India.
The Nvidia 320 mb evga card is also a really good bang for your buck, and is a great perfomer.

^^ People here are suggesting P35 boards i.e P35-DS3R, P35-DS3P and Abit IP35 Pro which are much newer then 680i boards and are one of the best buys in US itself.

The comparison you are showing is between 680, 650 vs 975, 965.

PSU + Cabby suggested by artfuldodger is the best you can get at the price. It will be $30 higher than your budget (and I think both have free shipping). Go for those two, you wont regret.

I would say -
CPU - 6750 $212 FS
Mobo - DS3R or DS3P (I would go with DS3P) - $137 - assuming you will get DS3R
RAM - your choice, get value ones if ou dont intend to OC ~$100
PSU - CM 650w as suggested earlier - $50 AR FS
Cabby - Antec 900 - $90 AR FS
dvd-rw - Lite-on - $33 with FS
LCD - your choice (also check if your school has any deals with Dell or HP for students/employees) - ~$200

Keyboard + Mice + speakers - I think you can pick these up at local BB, CC or any other comp shops for a bit less (save on shipping) or else pick an used one from school/dorms for now (dont know how things r at your school, usually they have some old ones for like $2-5 or sometimes for free).

Would total to - ~$822 without the Ky+Mouse+spk and the video card

Wouldnt the E6600 with its 9X multi be a decent choice as well?

Normally it would, but the recent steppings that Intel rolled out were duds. The worst of E6600 was seen in recent past. They dont overclock well.
