Hi Guys
I have some lost episodes which my mum wants to see on her dvd player. Now I have a macbook and have not used the dvd writer much. I wanted to know how many episodes can I squeeze in (most are mpeg4=500MB) on a single 4GB Disc? Of course I want them to be in DVD format (if thats the correct term) but dont want to spend a lot of money on blank discs.

I ahve the season 1 of Lost from Pallika and they have like 10 episodes on a single dvd disc! How is that possible since one episode is 40 mins ?
btw how much wud a blank dvd cost (if in bulk) from nehru place.

Taking the file size of 500mb for each eposide, you can fit in upto 8 episodes on a blank DVD.

Assuming you have a divX DVD player, just burn the episodes as a data-disk.

As for cost of blanks, a cake-box of 50 Moser-Baer Pro costs approx 850/- in NP.

If you want you can reduce the quality i.e. bit rate while writing to fit in more episodes on the blank dvd, and the ones you got from palika are definitely dual layer discs. Check them once. That is they have double the capacity.

hmm.. most tv shows that are 40 min each can be fitted into 350mb per episode. good quality rips that too. so that way u can easily get more then 10 episodes of a tv shows in a single layer disc. i do that all the time.

I have a DIVX compatible dvd player so burn these episodes directly to dvd without authorizing them , each episode is 350mb in size and i can fit 12 episodes on a regular dvd.

If you are going into creating(authorizing) a dvd as far as i remember i could fit in some 4 to 5 episodes on a regular dvd.

I buy the sony dvd-r's ,they cost me around 19rs per dvd.

if ur doing a dvd-video format thats like vcd/svcd.. standard player compatible... then u have a few choices... like standard play(sp)/extended play(ep)/long play(lp).... and a few others..

all are just diff encoding profiles.. the longer u extend the video. the lower the quality... there are possiblities to store 16hrs of video also on a single dvdr 4.7gb disk in vob format.

I don't think the topic creator has a Divx capable DVD Player, he said he wanted to convert them into DVD format.

Now, it can be easily converted to DVD (MPEG4) format, but if you're planning to watch downloaded episodes every week on your TV, I highly suggest you get a Divx Capable DVD players. They cost some Rs. 3000-4000, HIGHLY WORTH IT!

All you need to make sure is then the episodes don't have packed bitstream, then just simply burn them as data and watch it on your dvd player without any converting mess.

Its what Divx was made for!
