hello mates ,

gat a corsair vx 450 psu 3 months back from nehru place after reading alot here. but when yesterday morning i switched on my pc , got a very loud bang and lots of smoke.

then guess what one of the biggest capacitor of vx450 has just exploded leavind behind a dead psu.given the psu for rma at mercury service center Kalkaji and they told that it can take a week :@ .
now my biggest worries are what happened to my maximus formula and my evga 8800gt :( .

but how can a good psu like this gives away so easily ?????????

Defective capacitor. You shouldn;t have to worry if the primary capacitor exploded, if the supply was designed properly. If the secondary ones had gone you'd be in deep trouble.

I would suggest you get your hardware tested before the supply comes back.

You may have got a lemon. In any case, you have warranty left. PSU blowouts , you say the big capacitor, which means there was a blow out in the AC section (ironically the same section where the el-cheapo PSUs busted in that stupid corsair ad) which i guess 95% wont affect the PC parts.

Hey Jaspreet, where in Nehru Place you bought VX450, can you tell me the name of the shop and the price you paid. I gone there but didn't find anywhere.

oh dear.....corsair is now EL CHEAPO :(

Although it is a damned shame that Jaspreet's PSU failed, at that, don't you think jumping to such conclusions is rather, unaccounted for?
AFAIK a lot of TE members are using Corsair PSUs currently in their rigs without any troubles.

Hope you get your replacement soon, Jaspreet.

lol... i know that ...

Speak for yourself dude. Its much better. Its normal to see some psu going out like this. There are multiple unknown reasons why a psu has gone bad, not necessary a psu is a reason.

Nothing against you, but then why make that statement in the first place. You might know that, but some poor newbie comes along reading this post, it might just steer him away from choosing a quality PSU, or while posting a rig for review on here get flamed and ridiculed for choosing a much less favourable (i mean not just in terms of brand loyalty, but rather, brand reliability) PSU.

 okk...
Jaspreetrattan , u must have got those faulty PSU ,similiar to WD 640GB ,do
tell us about corsair RMA procedure.time taken, is it easy??

BTW the official distri i Tirupati

Caps blown in picture belongs to DC filter circuit in line with regulator IC. No need to worry it happens some time. There is absolutely no damage to other parts as power cuted from initial primary source. If we consider from initial side may be there short circuit/malfunction in AC line happened for instance in regulator IC. For testing second probability in final output, Do a check on motherboard and chassis for shorting.Chances are low for second probability because in this case Short Circuit Protection will trigger by "breaking" the circuit.Corsair VX450 is great SMPS .Stick with it strongly.

I have blown my old PSU (compaq heavy branded 300w) twice. Each time it got 220V while the switch was set to 110v.(mistakenly) But it never affected my PIII system those days.

Hope everything's fine bhaji :)
