Hi guys,

If you planning to buy a STB with recording facility, please buy it now else you will not be able to buy it for many months.

Because of floods in Thailand and the hard disk shortage because of it, there is a tough time coming for DTH companies.

Take example of Tata Sky HD+ (since I own it, know more about it), people are buying STBs at 4k, opening it and taking it out (a WD Green 500GB) which is retailing at 4.5k these days.

Also, if the 500GB will cost 4.5k, how can Tata Sky sell the STBs at 4k, surely either short supply or price increase.

Think about it guys.

you are talking about logic. so logically yes.

but i doubt you get warranty over these HDDs.

also all operators have huge buffer stocks. so that again wont be a problem

If one has to buy in coming few days/week, why take chances. Why assume that DTH operator has "Huge" buffer stock. :)

I think there should not be HDD warranty issue, last year I bought a 2TB WD Green for a friend from malaysia and checked the warranty here and it was valid in India.

Is this a kind of propaganda ? I saw a similar posting in another forum. 1TB drives cost 2.7-2.8k. So how come the 500GB drives are costing 4.5k??

oh is it so. I just bought a 1TB drive couple of months back at 2.8k. I have a 2TB drive that I have to RMA. Not got the time. Anyone interested :D

Some dealer in Punjab still have 500Gb@ 3500~ No need to hookup with monthly rent & OEM tatasky HDD (No warranty) Wait for couple of months to settle down price. If hike persists, rumor is SSD to jump into normal market with price tags comparable to of mechanical drives.
