So, I was looking to buy a netbook for myself, when a friend asked me to buy one for him first :D. This way I can get my hands on one, test it, use it, and see if it meets my requirements and then accordingly buy later.

Now, I'm looking for a netbook for the following purpose/requirements:

  • Internet
  • Office
  • Basic Photoshop
  • Flash Games
  • Decent Battery Life
  • WiFi & LAN
  • Decent screen size to view at (with/without spectacles)

Unfortunately, my budget is not more than 15-16k.

I have been browsing a few models online by Dell, HP and others, they however, are out of my spending capacity. I found a deal on eBay for Asus EEE PC 900HA priced at Rs. 15540/- shipped, using a 750 coupon. (Missed the Rs.1000 coupon :( )

I also read a few reviews on this very model and am pretty satisfied with the performance. I just need to get a second opinion on this model or another one that fits my bill.

Also, how is Asus' after sales service in India. Here's a link to the ebay netbook, fair deal is it?

Thanks,
Amit

Bought the 900HA today, couldn't afford to miss the ebay deal.

Damages: 15,540 shipped. Hoping to receive it within a week.

The Toshiba does look really good :D
Newegg.com - TOSHIBA NB205-N210 Black Intel Atom N280(1.66GHz) 10.1" WSVGA 1GB Memory 160GB HDD Netbook - Netbooks

At 350$ it's priced great as well.. Seriously contemplating getting it now. :ohyeah:

They are available in India.......both the models........i.e. the 350$ and the 400$ one...

It has received rave reviews and only falters in the audio department. It just has a single speaker that is barely audible. If that is not an issue, it is an awesome purchase.

+Amazing battery life
+the 400$ one has good looks, good island type keys, good touchpad with independent left and right buttons, much better as compared to a single rocker button that only presses comfortably towards the end on both sides.
+it can charge your USB devices even when your laptop is not powered.
+it has an in-built sensor to protect your hard drive by disengaging its head when it detects a fall.

-Glossy screens can be a pain, especially when you are travelling in the car and the sunlight makes it next to impossible to view the screen.
-Doesnt come with a sleeve as other netbooks
- Until recently HCL used to take care of the servicing of Toshiba Laptops. I have heard that Toshiba has now taken it upon themselves. So there is hope for better ASS.

@Ragin_Ice

Thanks for the extra info. Strangely, the only review for the netbook seems to be from Laptopmag ...

And this is what they have to say about its 'audio' :

Dual stereo speakers, hidden below the front edge of the system, were a bit weak compared with other netbooks we have tested. When playing The Shins over Slacker.com, we had to crank up the volume to hear the lyrics. Similarly, on a Skype call we couldn’t make out our callers’ voice as clearly as we would have liked.

Deal-breaker? :(

By the way, Nano seems to kick the Atom in tests.. (single core)

Samsung NC20 - based on the VIA Nano is expensive at 500$, but there's a Lenovo deal avble at 377$ - Killer deal if you ask me :P

I'm sooo going for that now :D

Details

EDIT:

Performance comparisons of the Intel Atom against the Via Nano come to simple conclusions. In general terms a single core Intel Atom is outperformed by the Via Nano which is in turn outperformed by a dual core Intel Atom in tests where the second core is used.

just got my hands on the nc110 and damn its so fine :D ...except for them tiny speakers , dont find anything bad about it ....

Brand new Asus EeePC 1000HE for Rs.20000/-, with 1 year warranty, buying it from abroad so not sure if warranty valid in India.

Is the deal worth it?

i have made my mind to buy the worlds worst processor...it wont be a netbook for me...it will be a poor mans laptop... i am repeatedly told by my brother not to buy atoms ....he recommended Compaq CQ40-T4200 model but it has a poor batter life
