I am in the process of building a rig with a core i72600k, I need to buy a new case for the rig. The case should have plenty of room and should have really really good airflow. My budget is strictly 6k.

I have shortlisted the following:

1. CM HAF 912 Advanced
2. Antec DF-30
3. NZXT Tempest EVO.

Which one should I go for?

Thanks

Re: Buying a New PC Case???? Which One.......Help

Buy NZXT Tempest Evo... As it has good airflow... Comes with dust filters... And a lot of of fans... Supports E-Atx form factor motherboards and also has good space to take in long high end gpus...
the only thing that you wont like about this case is that the way hard drive bays are positioned...

Re: Buying a New PC Case???? Which One.......Help

yes that is true, but the HAF 912 also can take long graphics cards, moreover it has removable HDD cage that one can orient in two ways to suit need....but it comes with only 3 fans (2x200mm and 1x120mm)....the question is whether the EVO can provide better cooling than the HAF...btw i like the look of the HAF better :P

Re: Buying a New PC Case???? Which One.......Help

I trust Cooler Master to make some really good cabinets.

The HAF is a really good cabinet and has neat looks. Go for it.

Re: Buying a New PC Case???? Which One.......Help

The NZXT Tempest EVO best case in the sub-7000/- category, pre-bundled with 6 fans (4x 120mm + 2x 140mm), dust filters / screens, AIRFLOW is superb kicks every other case even with more OR larger fans.

Supports the E-ATX standard boards if you suddenly feel the urge to buy boards like the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD9 GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1366 - GA-X58A-UD9 (rev. 1.0), rest assured the Tempest will take it in a tow, actually the positioning of the hard drive bay makes cable routing less messy. I vote for the NZXT Tempest EVO.

^ +1 to NZXT EVO if weight(11.2kg) is not the issue........ its best one in that range....

the next best cabinet in this range is CM HAF912 Advanced and not normal HAF912..........just bought HAF 912 2 days back as it was only 8kgs, 3 FANS, but 2 are 200mm fans(which are equivalent to 4 100mm fans) and one 100mm fan....... u can add one extra 100mm fan on the side panel too......it lacks in dust filters....... but still is very good cabinet..........

Re: Buying a New PC Case???? Which One.......Help

OP,

Out of your choices, my vote goes to Antec DF30 if go for possible DF-35. Looks are subjective but I really like its design.

I am using NZXT tempest not EVO and it indeed has good cooling but is not very good in cable management.Other than that I didn't like the plastic at the top of cabinet.

Re: Buying a New PC Case???? Which One.......Help

@alpha and devesh....yes i also like the tempest EVO but i am not sure how does it compare to the HAF 912 advanced in terms of build quality & room for really tall CPU coolers. I have a thermaltake Frio (160mm tall)...and the maximum cooler compatibility for the EVO from specs is 159.5mm and for the HAF is 175mm...devesh you own a HAF do you say it has that 175mm clearance?

Also how are the temps? i plan to OC my i7 2600k to 4.5ghz + so temps are very important.

@vivacious...i am also tempted towards the DF-30 (DF-35 out of budget) but it doesnot have screwless design...also the EVO has better cable management than the original tempest

Cant tell now as i am out of home....... but since it has 200mm fan on top panel so i think the clearance is around 175mm, will confirm it by today evening once I am at home.........

and also one more thing my 5870 card fitted with just enough clearance for the power connectors to plug to card....... Phew......

Re: Buying a New PC Case???? Which One.......Help

hmm...btw devesh can you plz confirm whether the HAF 912 has replaceble and meshed expansion card slots?

Re: Buying a New PC Case???? Which One.......Help

^^ From the specs the 912 has 175mm clearance. Attached the images..

You sure evo has less clearance than 912?? Evo is wider than 912 if I recall correctly

Edit: Yeah... the 912 is wider than evo, but shorter

confirmed that the clearance from motherboard to side panel is 175mm......... and about the expansion card slots they are slotted and not meshed.......mesh are not there at most places(side panel where fan is to be placed, Top panel where 200mm fan sits, and back panel where 100mm fanis there) in this case........:(

^^

NZXT Tempest EVO specifications --

Dimensions W x H x D -- 211.5 x 521.5 x 562. NZXT :: Unique. Unprecendented. Inspired - Tempest EVO Product Detail

HAF 912 Advanced specifications --

Dimensions W x H x D -- 230 x 480 x 496. HAF 912 Advanced - Cooler Master.

Both the cabinets will easily accommodate your cooler. Essentially the Tempest is a a wee bit longer so can take longer cards with a little more headroom, still throw my lot with the NZXT Tempest EVO.
