Buying Air cooler - Pent House

Hi, I'm planning to buy a air cooler for my room (@ Bangalore) which roughly measures 400sq.feet... It is a pent house ( Single room at the top floor).... Since sunlight falls directly on the ceiling of my room, switching on fan makes my room hotter and hotter.... Reading reviews, I'm worried whether air cooler also will result in same situation of increasing humidity... And whether all air coolers starts giving foul smell or it all depends on maintanence..??! If i choose to buy which is the best brand... I'm looking under 8000Rs....
I want you people to share their own experience, so that it will be helpfull for me to proceed further...

If its your own home, put a false ceiling in place.

Air Cooler literally blows mists of water in the room, so humidity will go up. Bangalore residents can advice on the normal humidity levels there.
