Hi,
My cousin is Going to singapore for a Small Business Trip for 3 to 5 days next week
He his planning to buy some electronic stuff such as a Iphone and Mac and Some Computer Accessories
His hotel is near the Singapore Airport
Can some one suggest some good places with decent prices for shopping in singapore
He is going for the first time so is not familiar where to get a good and genuine deal.

Thanx in Advance

If you are looking to buy grey market stuff - mobile/tablets/tv screen, ask him to go to Niranjan store near Mustafa on Race course road.
You'll probably get for 100-200$ lesser than the original price.

Keep an eye on electronic expo's that happen frequently at Singapore Expo near to the airport. Prices in the expo will be the same as original prices but you can get some worthy freebies.
I had bought Sammy 46" F6400 3D LED TV from the Expo, price was ~1500$, i got a Blu ray 3D player thats worth 12k INR in India and 2 additional 3D glasses.

Prices for high end smart phones will be almost similar to Indian price after conversion or even more. TV prices are less though.

Niranjan store near Mustafa on Race course road
How far is this Place from the airport
Thanx

Around 20-25 mins by road. Or can travel by train (MRT) alight at Farrer Park MRT on the purple line and take the exit that says Race Course road.

Singapore isn't a favoured destination for high end mobiles or MAC books for that matter. Rupee conversion brings it down to same price as ours and even expensive than items in India. Just compare the prices of USB disk drives in Spore and India. Much expensive in Singapore.

Yes, TV sets and Home entertainment system are cheaper than in India. Whatever you plan in Singapore always compare and take into account warranty factor especially for laptops.

Expos are a good opportunity. And some other is always taking place all round the year. You can google for prices at Singapore shops.

And don't forget the new custom rules for TV sets.

I dont think you'll be charged tax or vat if it is a duty free store.

SG is a good place to buy only one thing - High end audio. For everything else, it is not worth it.

How about Mustafa market and Little India
Any Ideas about these places, has some one visited before
Thanx

Mustafa isnt cheap as compared to other retail stores in Singapore. its just a convenience that you get all items under one roof. If your friend has some time tell him to visit sim lim square for electronic items. Airport apple store is expensive than local apple store, so much for being Duty Free.

PS: Reach airport in time to claim your VAT refund. For refund, he must get the store from where he has bought the item to fill up the claim form and this form can be then submitted to airport to claim VAT. Not all stores take part in VAT refund program, so make sure he clarifies this with the store before he buys item from the store.

I guess it doesnt make any sense in taking LCD/LED TV with new high duty custom rules. Prices is almost same as India.
